Peace Regional MRI and Ultrasound 23.11.2020

There are many conditions affecting the spine that can only be seen on MRI. These include MS, tumors of the spine or cord, strokes of the spinal cord (cord infarcts), bruises within the spinal cord (cord contusions), and fluid within the spinal cord (Syringomyelia). MRI is also the preferred method to see other spinal injuries such as protruding discs, scar tissue from previous surgeries, fractures, arthritis, inflammation and congenital abnormalities. Neurologists and neu...rosurgeons rely on MRI to determine the best possible treatment for all these conditions. In many cases the treatment of conditions affecting the spinal cord should be performed as quickly as possible, since delaying treatment could result in permanent disablement or loss of function. Peace Regional MRI and Ultrasound has the equipment and expertise to provide accurate and thorough imaging of all areas of the spine. We are conveniently located in downtown Dawson Creek and can provide your MRI exam with no waiting after we receive a requisition from your doctor. Further information, including requisitions, fees and location are available at: http://www.peacemri.com/index.html See more

People often ask us which type of test is best for them, MRI, CT Scan or Ultrasound? Each of these has its pros and cons. MRI uses no harmful radiation and can image most body parts, however it takes a long time (30 min - 2 hours) and may be difficult for some patients due to claustrophobia or the need to stay still for this duration. CT Scan is fast (often just a couple of minutes) and is particularly good for lungs, but uses radiation so may not be the best choice in young ...or pregnant patients. Ultrasound, like MRI, does not use any radiation. It is relatively quick (up to about 30 minutes) and is able to image most body parts, but has difficulty in areas surrounded by bone such as the brain. All three types of test are painless. Each type of scan can show different diseases or pathologies. Often your doctor will make the decision on what test to order for you based on what they are specifically looking for. If you have questions about what is best for you, please contact us and we can help you and your doctor make an informed choice. Our radiologists are available to consult with your physician to determine the best test for you based on your symptoms. Peace Regional MRI and Ultrasound offers expedited MRI and Ultrasound exams, but not CT Scan. We are conveniently located in Dawson Creek. Details on the exams we offer, our location, fees and contact information may be obtained on our website: http://www.peacemri.com/ See more

During the last several weeks we have been closely following the successes in the Northeast with maintaining particularly low infection rates of COVID-19, and are thankful the overall trend is towards a decrease in patients adversely affected by this virus. After consulting with the Northeast Medical Health Officer, and reviewing the guidelines established by the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, we have been approved to provide essential MRI and Ultrasound servic...es to address the backlog of urgent exams. We will continue to apply very stringent measures to do our part in containing the spread of the virus. To this end, we have increased sanitizing measures, screening of patients and staff and reducing patient traffic within our clinic. We are booking patients who are currently waiting for MRI and Ultrasound imaging based on the clinical urgency of their exam, in consultation with their referring physician and our radiologists. In order to minimize any exposure to others who may have the virus and to maintain appropriate personal distancing protocols, you will experience the following in regards to your exam: - You will be contacted in advance and asked a series of questions regarding your current health. - On the day of your exam, we ask that, unless you require assistance due to reduced mobility, you arrive for your appointment unaccompanied by others. - You will be screened again when you arrive to insure you have no symptoms of COVID-19. - Our staff will be wearing personal protective equipment and will have sanitized all surfaces, clothing and equipment that you may come into contact with prior to your exam. Rest assured we take your safety very seriously and will strictly adhere to all provincial health guidelines to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to protect our staff and patients. If you have any questions about your exam, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or by phone at 250-784-0040.
