We are finding a reason to smile this week since all proceeds from Tim Hortons Peace River Smile Cookies goes towards the Always Find a Reason to Smile campaign... to create awareness for suicide prevention. World suicide day was on September 10th, however we need to talk about suicide more than one day a year since the world loses someone to suicide every forty seconds. It is imperative that prevention needs to be a priority every day. We traded in our scrubs and PPE for life preservers and enjoyed a "leisurely" paddle from Shaftesbury Ferry to lower west peace as part of Paddle the Peace this... weekend. In kayaks and canoes, we took in the incredible scenic beauty of the valley and the Mighty Peace. Canoe you believe that our registered dental assistant, Jana and her husband Ken painted their canoe?! What a labour of love. Along with their cocker spaniel dog, Maggie in tow, these experienced paddlers led the way. When the boss is away, we go out and play!

We hope that everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather this Heritage long weekend! Our office is closed for the long weekend and will reopen Tuesday, August 4th. There are plenty of outdoor activities to do including strawberry picking at Bridgeview gardens Shaftesbury. Your efforts will be rewarded because not only do these berries have an explosion of flavour they have benefits for your oral health as well: 1. Strawberries contain malic acid which is a good natural enamel ...whitening agent. This will help keep your teeth free of stains. 2. Strawberries are packed with vitamin C, which helps your body produce collagen a protein vital to maintaining your gums strength. A half cup of strawberries (between 4 and 6 berries) will give you about 70% of your daily requirement of vitamin C. Although it is hard to find a fault in this fruit, the average strawberry contains 200 seeds which can get stuck between your teeth. Therefore it is important to floss after eating them. Flossing can help you prevent cavities from developing between your teeth!
