#TuesdayTips Proper exercise technique is ESSENTIAL for preventing injury and reaching your goals. Functional strength is the key to long-term health and sustainable exercise. When you simply go to the gym and lift the heaviest weight possible without good technique, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Injuries can strike anyone, no matter how strong you think you are, so make sure to prioritize your technique over anything else in the gym.... With proper technique, strength will follow and you’ll be able to achieve your goals much faster #technique #strength #gym #workout #goals #health

Are you properly utilizing your Windows of Trainability for sport performance? Windows of Trainability are specific periods in development where training has an optimal effect, and they are extremely important when attempting to maximize speed in sports such as: Hockey, Football, Basketball, Soccer, etc. There are two instances in a young athlete’s life where the window of trainability exists to optimize SPEED. ... - The first window of trainability occurs at a relatively young age (up to 8 years of age for girls and up to 9 years of age for boys), where the Central Nervous System (CNS) is developed to produce speed. - The second window of trainability occurs consistently as the athlete develops more strength by means of resistance training. By breaking down the force production equation F = m x a (Force = mass x acceleration), we can deduce that the way to further increase acceleration by maintaining a specific mass is to increase the production of force, which equates to a gain in strength. We at the Peak Centre for Human Performance pride ourselves in utilizing these optimal Windows of Trainability with a research-backed science-based approach to training, led by a team of professionals in the field of Sports Science and Exercise Physiology

It has become quite normal for people to indulge in the consumption of large quantities of alcohol after training/competition... Let’s face it, who doesn’t like a cold beer or a glass of wine after a big game or a hard workout? The big problem with this mindset, is that, according to research, alcohol consumption does in fact reduce the rates of Myofibrillar Protein Synthesis - process of muscle repair through the natural production of protein (Parr et al., 2014). ... In addition, when Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is elevated above baseline during recovery, blood flow, immunoendocrine function (immune system), and skeletal muscle recovery may be impaired, as well as hydration and glycogen resynthesis - the ability to restock glycogen stores for day-after-day training performance. Alcohol has also been linked to the inability to access fat stores efficiently during exercise, which makes it more difficult to promote sustainable weight loss (Barnes, 2014). The key to these studies always revolves around MODERATION. Occasional consumption of small amounts of alcohol are less likely to be detrimental to your sport/training performance, which is why it is important to carefully monitor habitual alcohol consumption so that the negative health outcomes are avoided #alcohol #fitness #muscle #strength #sports #protein #fatloss
