Our 4/5 Class has been busy in science making models of the planets in our solar system!

Before COVID changed the plans on us all - last week was supposed to be our March Break. We figured the students still needed a little bit of a break so we doubled up on their ice sessions and ramped up the fun "out of the box" learning inside the classrooms! Our grade 8 class for example had a week-long tournament of fun learning activities including; scavenger hunts, trivia, kahoots, tower/bridge/airplane building contests, developing advertising commercials, creating songs about staff members, and chess tournament. Saturday's SAT at the school is cancelled. Currently we have reached out to College Board to see if we can take increased numbers for the April testing date. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

We met as a staff this morning to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic, and decided that we will follow suit with the recommendation from the Ministry of Education, and will close the school for the two weeks following March Break (March 23-April 3 inclusively). We have made the decision to continue to progress through the year through online portals to make sure that the kids don’t lose a number of hours due to the closure of schools. You will be receiving an email from the teachers today about the platforms that we will be using to continue our teaching for the weeks we are closed (you will not have work to do next week for our break). Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We hope that all students and families stay safe and healthy during this time.

Sometimes, Math isn’t about getting the answer, it’s about figuring out the problem. Here’s an example of our Grade 4/5/6 class giving me different ways to get the answer of 20 in two minutes.
