"Make sure you are taking a prenatal multivitamin" is what you hear from your healthcare provider when you are trying to conceive. Is that it? It would provide every micronutrient I proper amounts for optimizing fertility and pregnancy outcomes, right? Nope, not even close! . Did you know that there are specific micronutrients, for example choline, that cannot be obtained through a prenatal vitamin? Did you also know that maternal CHOLINE is vital during prenatal deve...lopment because choline plays a key role in: - placental function (cellular growth, macronutrient transport, anti-inflammation) - neurodevelopment (processing speed, visuospacial memory, attention, self-regulation) - epigenenic programming (fetal growth, brain development, chronic disease risk) . More recent studies in animals and humans show that the maternal diet with additional choline improves several pregnancy outcomes, aka improves the offspring's cognition, neurodevelopment and placental functioning. To sum up, choline intake during pregnancy has a long-term impact on memory and brain function from infancy into adulthood. . What about fertility outcomes? If there is not enough choline, homocysteine levels build up. Elevated homocysteine is associated with increased risk of miscarriage and poorer egg/embryo quality in women with PCOS undergoing IVF. So, eating enough choline containing foods will improve your chances of conception naturally and/or with ARTs. . What foods should you eat to get enough #choline? Choline is found in both animal (beef, eggs, chicken, fish, eggs, pork, cow's milk) and plant (nuts, legumes, broccoli ) foods. Animal sources contain more choline per gram of food, so it's easier to obtain enough through diet alone if you eat animal foods. . Bottom line: taking a prenatal vitamin is NOT enough for #tcc and #pregnancy. . #prenatal #healthypregnancy #cholinefoods #fertilitydiet #pregnancyoutcome #fertilitynutrition #peakfertility #fertilitydiet #fertilitynutrition #fertility #fertilityjourney #naturalfertility #fertilitysupport #fertilitycoach #pcos #pcosdiet #pregnancyfood #prenatalvitamins #prenataldiet #preventmiscarriage #ivf See more

What is a fertility diet? . There is strong scientific evidence that a Mediterranean-type dietary pattern enhances fertility in both women and men. . The Mediterranean diet emphasizes eating foods like fish, fruits, vegetables, beans, unprocessed whole grains, nuts, and extra virgin olive oil.... . Fertility diet also emphasizes incorporating a variety of vegetables that are high in folate, for example cooked spinach, collards, mustard greens, avocado and asparagus. Four (4) spears of cooked asparagus provide 130 mcg folate, which is more than twice as high as one cup of raw spinach. . Curious about more fertility diet tips?
