We are so excited to share some more amazing progress with you all check out these incredible changes made over only 4 weeks of treatment so far! These scans come from a little one at our #Burlington clinic. At her initial assessment, her measurements indicated extremely severe #Plagiocephaly (with a 15.1mm difference in her oblique measurements), and moderate-severe #Brachycephaly (with a CR of 0.93). She was fit for her first #SnugKap in mid-January, at 5 months old. I...n just under 4 weeks, we saw incredible changes in her head proportions At her most recent clinic visit, her measurements have already transitioned into normal ranges for both Plagiocephaly and Brachycephaly! Special delivery! We received the cutest package this week from our dear friend Carolina of Fisioterapia bebê in São Paulo, Brazil! Carolina works with babies to treat infant head shape asymmetry and torticollis, and her clinic also uses #SnugKap cranial bands for their treatment programs! These beautiful handmade dolls are given as a gift when a baby is finished treatment and has 'graduated' their program Each one has a SnugKap and a little Fisioterapia bebê log...o on their shirt. How adorable are they?! We are blown away by how creative and beautiful they are You might notice the date on the letter: Carolina originally sent this package to us in February of this year, but due to Covid-19, it was not able to be delivered and was returned all the way back to Brazil. We want to reassure all of our amazing families that your health and safety is our top priority! As an essential service, we are here to ensure that your baby's treatment goes as smoothly as possible Based on Health Canada's response to changing COVID-19 conditions, we are prepared to make modifications to the way we conduct our clinic operations and treatment programs. Here are some of the changes you can expect if COVID-19 regulations increase:... 1. We would transition our intake appointments (Initial Assessments) to Virtual Assessments via Zoom. If the clinician determined that your baby was a candidate for treatment, only then would we schedule you to come into the clinic for a Scan Appointment. 2. We would limit our clinic hours and availability to only accommodate necessary appointments. (These would be Scan Appointments and Fitting Appointments, as determined by your clinician.) We would continue to sanitize the clinic thoroughly between each family. 3. All Follow-Up Appointments for families in a treatment program would be conducted virtually via Zoom. If there was an issue with your SnugKap, or your clinician determined it was time for a new SnugKap, we would schedule you for an in-clinic appointment as necessary. 4. All staff would continue to wear PPE as required, and we would ask families to please continue to wear a mask while visiting if possible. We would minimize the number of caregivers allowed to accompany the baby into the clinic to reduce the spread of germs. If any of these changes are necessary, we will do our best to give all of our families advance notice. We appreciate your efforts to help us keep our clinic as safe as possible for everyone who visits! Happy Friday We are kicking off the long weekend on a high note: sharing some incredible treatment progress with you! We always recommend that families with head shape concerns for their babies come in for an assessment sooner rather than later The prime window to start treatment is 4-6 months of age, and this photo is a perfect example of why! This baby came to our Edmonton clinic when she was 4 months old for an initial assessment. Her CVAI and CR values put her in th...e severe range for Brachycephaly, and the moderate-severe range for Plagiocephaly. She was fit for her #SnugKap in early September, and after just FOUR weeks of treatment, her head shape has already corrected to normal ranges for both Brachycephaly and Plagiocephaly!! Her CVAI went from 7.0% to 1.7%, and her CR went from 92.7% to 84.4%. We are absolutely thrilled with her progress so far The reason why we prefer to treat infant head shape asymmetry at this age is that in order for treatment to be successful, rapid head growth, sutures of the skull being open ("soft spots"), and consistent orthosis wearing are necessary. Babies at 4 months old have incredible growth potential to harness, so correction typically happens faster than with older infants!
