November is #AdoptionAwarenessMonth, a time when Children's Aid Societies in Ontario raise awareness within their communities about the continuing need for adoptive or kin families for the children in their care. Every child and youth needs and deserves permanent, lifelong connections to flourish. The primary goal of our agency is to support children to live safely with their family of origin. When that is not possible, we look for an alternate family, preferably known to th...e family, who can provide a safe, nurturing, and loving environment in which the child can grow. Adoption is one of a number of options that we consider when looking for a life-long connections for children in care. Kinship service, kinship care, customary care, legal custody, and transitioning to adulthood are other permanency options considered when making decisions about what is the best setting for a child or youth. Despite significant recruitment measures, it continues to be challenging to find families who are ready, willing, and able to meet the needs of older children, large sibling groups, or those with complex medical, developmental, and behavioral needs. "With so many seeking to erase transgender people - sometimes in the most brutal ways possible - it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice" - Gwendolyn Ann Smith, TDOR Founder #TransDayofRemembrance

Shubh Diwali! #Diwali, also known as, #Deepawali and #BandiChorDivas, is one of India’s biggest festivals. Observed by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists, Diwali is celebrated this year from November 12 through to November 16 commemorating the triumph of good over evil and symbolizing the deep relationship between humans and animals. During this time, homes are decorated with candles and #Diya wherein families extend their gratitude to Lakshmi, Ganesha and the return of Ra...ma and Ayodhya. The joy is felt through the burning of effigies of #Ravana, #rangoli displays at entrance ways and fireworks. Families and communities gather to share various culinary treats like barfi, ladoos, samosa, aloo tikki and many other items especially prepared for the occasion. Learn more: http://ow.ly/g0nc50CiQnK To all who celebrate, we wish you a happy and blessed Diwali!

Today we recognize #NationalChildDay with our partners across the country. In celebration we will be joining Children First Canada for an interactive digital event featuring youth activists, leading voices for children's rights, government and industry leaders, and so much more! National Child Day has been celebrated across Canada since 1993 to commemorate the United Nations' adoption of two documents centered on children's rights: the United Nations Declaration of the Righ...ts of the Child on November 20, 1959, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1989. Celebrating National Child Day is about celebrating children as active participants in their own lives and in communities, as active citizens who can and should meaningfully contribute to decision-making. There are 8 million kids in Canada, and they all have something in common their rights! Thank you Children First Canada for leading the charge and inspiring all of us to get involved!
