TD PEI Jazz & Blues Festival 06.06.2021

Big Band Music plus the fabulous Groove Company in Summerside on Saturday Night!! PEI’s community big band, the Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble performs Saturday February 15th at the Silver Fox, with special guest Groove Company Charlottetown Jazz at the Silver Fox, with Groove Company Silver Fox Entertainment Complex 110 Water Street, Summerside... Admission is $10 at the door. Formed in 1996, the Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble presents a fun mix of both traditional and contemporary big band music featuring some of PEI’s most accomplished musicians. For this concert the big band is featuring classics like Brazil, In The Mood, Girl Talk, Spain, Freddie the Freeloader, Groove Merchant, Besame Mucho, Caravan, Sing Sing Sing, and more. Groove Company is a sextet that plays original, fun and creative arrangements of some of the best pop and rock hits of the last 45 years by groups like the Beatles, Stones, Van Morrison, The Box Tops,, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, the Police, and more! Band leader Perry Williams explains We want this to be fun for us and a good time for people who come out to dance. Come hear the "Official Opposition Horns" featuring Peter Bevan-Baker trumpet, Doug Millington trombone, and Dan Rowswell subbing for Jon MacInnis sax - along with the rest of the band, Isaac Williams bass, Alan White drums and Perry vocals and guitar.

Our annual AGM is tomorrow. Join us - 5:30pm on Tuesday March 10th at Kent Building Supplies located at 65 Walsh Road by the intersection of Route 2 and the Trans-Canada Arterial Road. Everyone interested in the local jazz and blues music scene in PEI is welcome to attend and provide input for the ongoing development of the festival this coming season and beyond. Persons interested in supporting jazz and blues in PEI are encouraged to apply to join the Board of Directors by sending an email to "[email protected]" or by messaging Dan Rowswell or any current board member. Once arriving at Kent Building Supplies please make your way to the pro desk at the back and look for the staircase to the left. The meeting is on the second floor at the back of the store.

Two great shows tonight celebrating Black History Month. At 8pm Island Jazz celebrates Black History Month with a show presented by 'Urban Islanders' a dynamic collective of young Islanders who love and honour urban culture from all around the world and are happy to showcase the incredible global talent and music we have right here in PEI! And check out this lineup! Isaiah Sealy, Sepehr Izadi, Aaron Ferguson, Christina Edwards, Paulina Hernandez, Mario Jones, Kwasi Stampley, ...Kierrah Celeste, Travis Edwards - TVT, Teresa Kuo, Luisa Guiza, Charles Ruth, APEE, Daniel Butterfield, Vince The Messenger and Joshua Obembe. Saturday night PEI’s community big band the Charlottetown Jazz Ensemble performs with special guest Groove Company at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall downtown. Admission is $15 adults, $10 for students, at the door. For this concert the big band will perform classics including A Child is Born, Caravan, Freddie the Freeloader, I Mean You, Girl Talk, Groove Merchant, Spain and many more!... Please note, this concert will be held Saturday Nov 23, not Sunday Nov 24 as incorrectly noted in The Guardian in their Friday paper.
