The applied research division of Holland College and the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island are active in supporting industry and community groups with various projects and are supporting the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association with this research. Holland College and the Atlantic Veterinary College have engaged MRSB Consulting Services to undertake consultations with the horse industry to examine models for transferring knowledge to industry participants on best practices in the breeding, care and training of horses and business management. We are interested in hearing from participants in the standardbred horse industry on PEI as to your need for information to assist with breeding, care, training, and business management. As you would be aware a strong and vibrant harness racing industry in any jurisdiction increases benefits to the industry as a whole. We would appreciate 5 -10 minutes of your time to hear from you in regards to the knowledge you would like to gain and the way in which you would like to receive that information. Information received will be compiled and combined for presentation. All individual responses will remain confidential to MRSB and only combined information will be shared in our report. Stallion Auction Announced For Fran Strongman When times get tough horse people are always known for coming together and that is exactly what is happening this weekend in support of P.E.I. horsewoman Fran Strongman’s battle against cancer. A group banded together to solicit entries for a stallion benefit auction for the Summerside, P.E.I., horsewoman who has just started chemotherapy as she continues her road against her diagnosis. Strongman and her family of husband trainer...-driver Norris Rogers and daughter Madison Rogers have already incurred a great number of expenses since hearing the news that no one wants to hear. The auction will go live Saturday (April 3) at 12 P.M. Atlantic time featuring eight Atlantic stallion breedings as well as a pair of Ontario stallions. The Facebook page for the auction will be at Stallion Breeding Auction Benefit Towards Fran Strongman with the bidding beginning to close at 8 P.M. A.S.T. on Monday evening (April 5) with a stallion closing every five minutes. The choices for anyone looking to support the fundraiser include Ontario Sires Stakes eligible Big Bad John, who is being offered by Chestnutt Country Farms. State Treasurer is another Ontario stallion in the mix with Dr. Ian Moore donating a breeding to his former trainee. For Atlantic stallions, Flameproof Hanover will have a breeding available for purchase for his inaugural season courtesy of Earl Watts of Windemere Farms. Robin Burke offers a breeding to Atlantic eligible Shanghai Phil for the auction while Todd Weatherbee has a breeding offered for Czar Seelster. Boom Boom Ballykeel will have a breeding available courtesy of Jamie MacKinley’s Double J Farms for the stallion’s first season. The EL Rocket syndicate offers a breeding to the trotting stallion in support of Strongman and Blaine MacPherson of Howmac Farms also offers a service to Articulator. Trotting stud Mill Hill Willie will also have a 2021 breeding available courtesy of Paul Morrison. Woodmere Farms offers the choice of Stonebridge Terror, Bet The Moon, Arthur Blue Chip and Rollwithitharry. The winner of that bid can select any one of the four Woodmere stallions to cover the stud fee for a live foal of either 2021 or 2022. The group organizing the stallion auction reminds potential bidders that stud fees are non-transferable, the winning bidder must use it for one of their own mares. See more

Please note the changes to the payment schedule of the following stakes that are effective immediately and for 2021 only: In light of COVID 19, the increased d...emand being placed on Canada Post, and the unique challenges that have affected horsemen in our region this season, the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association in conjunction with the Maritime Breeders Association will be offering a one-time late payment extension until April 9th, 2021 for two and three-year-old horses that were nominated to the following stakes as yearlings: 1) PEI Colt Stakes (formerly known as the Island Breeders) 2) Lady Slipper Stake 3) Joe O’Brien Stake 4) Brian Andrew Memorial 5) Maritime Breeders Stake The Associations involved with this initiative feel that working together will further their goals for the betterment of the Standardbred Industry in the region as well as promote inclusivity in the racing community. Payments may be made by credit card only through the Standardbred Canada online staking portal or by calling Amy Davis @ 905-838-3060 ex. 254. Payments made by phone must be between 9:30 am and 5:30pm AST and will only be accepted until 5 pm AST on April 9th, 2021.

WEEK 5 ATLANTIC DREAM STABLE UPDATE Kathy Furness continues her lead in the standings. She jumped ahead of Sam Heffernan by around $1,200 after the Barrieau-McIsaac stake Saturday afternoon and maintained an almost identical lead after Stakes Sunday in Summerside. Big things are shaping up Thursday Night for Trotting Mares at Red Shores - Charlottetown! Post Time 6pm, race 2 and race 4 will host the 10 best aged trotting mares on the East Coast of Canada!
