Introducing our new head chef, Aaron Gautreau We are very please to announce that Aaron Gautreau is the new head chef at the Garden Home. Prior to joining Garden Home, Aaron served as the Head Chef at NWT Brewing Company/The Woodyard Brewhouse and Eatery in Yellowknife since 2016. During his time there he created dishes that were focused around the local offerings of Yellowknife. Aaron was also the head chef at Thornton’s Wine and Tapa’s Room in NWT, Sous Chef at Le Frolic Bi...stro Bar in NWT, and Head Chef at Piece of Cake restaurant, PEI. Aaron brings more than 20 years of culinary experience to the Garden Home. When describing what drives him while in the kitchen, Aaron explains, I have come to love creating cuisine for people to enjoy. I am passionate about designing culinary dishes from local farmers’ products. Aaron is thrilled for this new opportunity and eager to share his knowledge of the culinary world. Most importantly he cannot wait to start the next chapter of his career here at the Garden Home and to provide healthy, delicious food for our residents. He looks forward to working collectively with all of you and your loved ones. #peiseniorshomes #enhancedlivingcenter #ltcnursinghome #culinary #peicharlottetown #foodie

Good evening, If you have been at any of the locations (inside the building) that Dr Morrison announced today please proceed to testing and do not come to work until test result is negative. Please inform your manager if you need to miss work because of this situation. If any partners in care have been at these location you will also be asked to get a negative test prior to coming back inside the home. ... We will provide a further update tomorrow. Thank you Trevor

Good morning, Effective Wednesday December 2nd we will be moving to one Partner in Care. We ask that you inform our activity department of who the one Partner in Care will be. We will continue with the Partner in Care having access throughout the entire visitation hours and will not be moving to scheduled visits. Our expectation of the Partner in Care is that they will have a high level of awareness and diligence to appropriate practices during covid. Examples of covid pra...ctices are: keeping your circle small, avoiding high risk areas, excellent hand hygiene, and among other things related to minimizing your opportunity for contracting covid. I have attached a link to the World Health Organization that has a lot of information for the public on safe practices during COVID. https://www.who.int//novel-coronavirus-2/advice-for-public The reason for the change is related to the case at Charlottetown Rural high school and the large number of people that attend that school. We know that there have not been any more positive cases to this point but we are concerned that others may present over the next couple weeks. We always appreciate feedback related to our decisions, so please reach out if you have any feedback. Thank you for your time, [email protected] Trevor Cudmore
Hi all, As you all have heard by now there is another positive covid case with a student at Charlottetown Rural. This case is probably the highest risk we have had to date for increased community transmission. We need to maintain our diligence in keeping our circles small, wearing masks everywhere we go, and performing excellent hand hygiene. We have several infection control practices in place to protect the residents and the team at Garden Home. We have recently begun coh...orting (smaller groups of people from the same area of the building) residents and staff. We continually perform increased cleaning of high touch surfaces on top of our routine cleaning practices. We have a robust screening process, we ask people to not enter the building when they have symptoms. We all wear medical grade masks while in the building. This is not a time to panic, our current practices are a strength and they have already demonstrated on two occasions (Whisperwood villa and QEH emergency department) that they can prevent a spread of the virus. We will continue to monitor the updates from the CPHO and will provide changes as required. I also know these are trying times, but we have a great team and we have overcome a lot already this year and we have learned from all of it. I know we can handle this as well. If anyone has any questions or concerns please reach out. Thank you for your commitment to the care of the residents at Garden Home. [email protected] Trevor Cudmore

Effective 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, the Atlantic provinces are temporarily suspending the Atlantic Travel Bubble to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the region. There are increasing cases in our bordering provinces and the confirmation of community spread. Please note the following changes will be reflected in the Long Term Care Directive as well as the direction previously discussed last week. These changes apply Long Term Care and Community Care. 1. All staf...f who have had travel outside of PEI in the last 14 days must commence a 14-day work restriction period. There will be no work isolation allowance for staff who travel outside of PEI. This is retroactive from today, November 23. 2. Any Visitors or Partners in Care (PICs) with travel outside of PEI in the last 14 days will not have entry to the home until they have been home for a total of 14 days (same guidelines as staff). There are no testing implications unless for Compassionate reasons. We will be following the pre-established testing schedule for Compassionate travellers outside of PEI. 3. All individuals in any Long Term Care facility (staff, visitors, PICs, residents, entertainers, etc.) must physically distance from one another. This does not apply to staff and PICs directly involved in a resident's care. Going forward, all travellers to Prince Edward Island, including residents of Atlantic Canada, will require pre-travel approval and need to have a 14-day self-isolation plan in place to enter the province. Island residents returning to Prince Edward Island do not need to apply for pre-travel approval to enter the province but will need to self-isolate or apply to work-isolate for 14-days. Islanders who frequently travel within Atlantic Canada for work or Atlantic Canadians who frequently travel to Prince Edward Island to work, including rotational workers, will need to apply to work-isolate or register as a rotational worker. Long term care workers are not allowed to work-isolate. Individuals who need to travel within Atlantic Canada for essential purposes (such as a medical appointment or transportation of goods, picking-up students at university for example) are not required to self-isolate if they return to Prince Edward Island within 24-hours (same day). Islanders or anyone in Prince Edward Island who is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should immediately visit a COVID-19 Drop-in Clinic to be tested and stay home (isolate) until you receive the results. Keep each other safe, be kind, we will work toward keeping residents connected to families as we did before. Find more details about changes to travel restrictions here: https://bit.ly/BubbleSuspension
Point of clarification on the visitation guidelines Good morning, I wanted to provide a point of clarification related to the visitation guidelines. The guidelines that we are putting in place effective Monday have an increased restriction compared to what you will see released from the CPHO and other media platforms. ... We are restricting visitation to the Partners in Care only, the directive from CPHO still allows further visitation of upto 6 others but we feel that visitation puts the residents in too much risk during these days. We have 133 residents that live at Garden Home and if you provide each resident with 9 visitors you will end up with a lot more risk even with current infection control practices. COVID numbers are increasing across the country and in the maritimes at a rapid rate. It is even in a care home in Moncton. We felt it best to restrict further for a two week period, with an evaluation at the end on the effects of our decisions to resident and family wellbeing. I do want to be clear on this point though, as this second wave progresses we have no plans to move to a restriction to 0 partners in care, we will do everything we can to make sure there is always a partner and care coming into the home. Over the next two weeks, we would appreciate and highly encourage your feedback related to this decision at [email protected] Thank you, stay safe and keep your circles small. Trevor Cudmore
Residents and Families of Garden Home This week Dr. Heather Morrison, and the Chief Public Health Office, introduced changes to the visiting restrictions in long term care homes. The changes take effect on Monday, November 23rd. Please be aware of the following upcoming changes:...Continue reading
