DPCM is grateful to All Nations International Development Agency (ANIDA) for the turkeys we distributed with DPNCHC staff on December 14 Thank you to Henry and Kevon for helping distribute turkeys and Thanks to Whyishnave for calling community members to confirm their turkey pick up. It was a great experience and a joy giving to the community.

Salamat Emo! I remember reciting "Iníibig ko ang Pilipinas" after the flag raising in Grade 4 and a school official ran shouting to stop me "... fifty centavos... " then as she stood in front of me, "your father owes the school four hundred and fifty pesos as a fine for speaking in Tagalog." I answered, "Happy National Language Day." I was expelled.

We want to say MIIGWECH to everyone who has donated!! So far this week we gave out brand new military coats and Pajar winter coats to our Indigenous street folk...s across Toronto's west end. The coats are duck down, water repellent, 4 Layer construction coats that will keep them very warm during the harsh winter cold. We still have about 10 more coats to get out before we start purchasing and handing out working top grade winter boots. We want to thank Dashmaawaan Bemaadzinjin (They Feed The People) for the delicious and nutritious food for our weekly feast on Sunday and the warm and hearty soup to give out during our outreach today. Please continue to share the fundraising page to help spread the message far and wide! The danger of single-hulled ships was revealed after the Exxon Valdez oil spill and insurance companies were refusing to cover them after 2004. These ships were sent for recycling to India and Bangladesh, where workers wearing flip-flops were losing their eyesights because they wore no welder's helmet let alone one with a filter shade, they were injuring themselves, losing limbs, where sites reported two deaths each day. In Ed Burtynsky's Anthropocene, we are faced with human impact on the Earth's geology, ecosystems and climate change... and on the invisible, "disposable" people.

Looking to chart a new course at the Canadian Race Relations Fdn / Fondation canadienne des relations raciales I don’t want us to have to apologize 50 years from now. Let’s make some real change.

Oct 10, 2020, 2:40 AM (4 days ago) to me Incarcerated People Are Being Abandoned to the Pandemic in Thunder Bay... The Thunder Bay District Jail inmate population finally fell below capacity over the summer, due to a combination of inmates being shipped out to other, smaller jails throughout Ontario, as well as leniency being granted towards those with minor non-violent offences However, since August the inmate count has been steadily rising once more, with incidents of violence rising in tandem Allegations have been raised by inmates that cells are converted to intake rooms for newly arrived inmates, where they are quarantined together in sets of 2, 3, and even 4 in tiny, 6 by 8 foot rooms The Context: the dire system at the Thunder Bay District Jail was brought to light by Paul Townsend, an inmate, when he sent out letters to MPPs in 2019 asking for help after the prison population grew to 190 inmates out of a capacity of 142 Go Deeper: three-quarters of the inmate population is Indigenous; most inmates held are awaiting trial; at least nine inmates, 8/9 of them Indigenous, have died since 2002; the jail is often locked down for days at a time due to being chronically unstaffed

On Basic Income, or, Guaranteed Livable Income We have been discussing this for a long time at Bread and Bricks, and have criticized the pilot that was shut down when Doug Ford took office in 2018. We criticized it then because we wanted basic income implemented right away and did not see the need for further testing when we already knew that the minimum wage was not adequate to sustain a living and social assistance rates had not increased in the last several years. If you a...re able, join the Vigil being held in Toronto on Tuesday, September 22 at 12:30 p.m. outside Chrystia Freeland’s office at 344 Bloor Street West (near Spadina). Come prepared to wear a mask and observe social distancing. For those of us unable to make the vigil, light a Vigil Candle at 12:30 p.m on Tuesday, September 23. Take a picture of you with the lit candle and post it to social media using the hashtags #UCCanLivableIncome, #UCCan, #guaranteedlivableincom and will make this post "Public" so it can be shared.
