It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of a very beloved business owner, Jennifer Specht from the Chancery Lane Co.. Jennifer died peacefully, following a brief illness, on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge. Jenny had been a part of the Downtown community since moving here with her family in 1959 when her parents opened their first business on the street - Maureen's a ladies clothing store named after her mother.... She grew up on the street and always called main street her playground. The love of retail was in her blood and she happily opened her first business - The Gingerbread House in 1995 and then later The Chancery Lane Co. Jenny was a staple on the street and greeted everyone with a smile and loved to converse with her customers and fellow business owners. We can honestly say she will truly be missed by all that were blessed enough to know her. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this very difficult time. Visitation will be held at Reynolds Funeral Home on Friday, October 2, 2020 between 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm AND between 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. between 9:00 am - 12:00 noon (705-645-2257) to reserve a specific time to attend the visitation or service. Unfortunately, Reynolds cannot accommodate unregistered visitors.

So so happy to hear that our awesome businesses are able to open on Tuesday! Each business will be very happy to welcome you back, both locals and seasonal residents, while maintaining protocals to keep everyone safe. It has been a long 8 weeks and nobody wants to go through that again! Happy shopping!

I was out for my daily walk yesterday and saw to my dismay two new empty storefronts. Two of our local businesses are now gone and the spaces are for rent. How many more will be gone before this nightmare is over? All of the Bracebridge businesses have been there for you in the good times so how about giving them some support in the bad times? Many if not most are offering shopping from their websites, curb pickup or free delivery to your front door. If everyone does just a little all our businesses that create employment in our town will have a fighting chance to survive. If you can shop on Amazon you can shop local. It takes a village.

It’s our fault. This is the world we built. Congratulations, cheers all.

Sometimes you just need a few hours off to relax and unwind in the midst of a busy Muskoka summer. A Saturday night dinner cruise on The Lady Muskoka may be just what you need and remind you why we love living here!
