I am so excited that I am able to share that I am now offering OHIP-covered online breastfeeding consults! I have partnered with a virtual pediatric clinic to p...rovide lactation consults Ontario-wide. Please have your Physician, Midwife, or Nurse Practitioner complete one of our short referral forms available on my website! Once it is received, I will contact you immediately to book your secure online session and to help walk you through the process! For local clients, you will have an option to request an in-home follow-up infant assessment session for an additional fee. These sessions will be shorter in duration. Have questions? Send me a private message.

I highly recommend reading this article. The only thing that should be used to clean the vulva is WATER , and the vagina (inside) needs no cleaning at all. The Vagina has a mucus membrane like your nostrils, intestines and esophagus. We don’t clean those parts of our body, why should we clean our vaginas? You can seriously disrupt vaginal Flora & pH which can lead to more problems (bacterial vaginosus, yeast infections at more). The fact that Vagisil is now marketing to teens and making them feel insecure about their vaginas & vulvas is disgusting! Spread the word, and if you are a mom of a girl, let her know she only needs to use water on the outside/vulva, and the vagina will look after itself. https://vajenda.substack.com/p/merchants-of-shame

50% of all humans will go through the menopause transition in their lifetime. We have been failing them. We need more health professionals, designations asi...de, who understand the SCIENCE, ART, and HEART of supporting women through this life stage. It was important for me as a clinician to add the North American Menopause Society Certified Practitioner designation to my credentials. In honour of the women who didn't get the support they needed, and in service to those who I have the honour of helping now. ROCK ON talking about mental health ! There are many contributors to mental health, and hormones can be a powerful one! Times of more intense hormone chang...e (puberty, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause transition) create giant sized WINDOWS OF VULNERABILTIY for risk of mental health. For example, the risk of depression may be 14 times higher during the 24 months surrounding the final menstrual period! Let's talk about mental health, AND, while you do all the thing necessary to support your own mental health, let's make sure we support you through hormone transitions. Check out my video posted next. Xo Dr. Kara #bellletstalk #bellletstalkday #hormonalhealth #womenshealth #naturopathicmedicine #menopause #perimenopause #puberty #pregnancy #postpartumdepression

Just finished presenting for Empowered Childbirth Education, and I must say - I love, love, LOVE having the chance to talk about breastfeeding with families BEF...ORE their baby comes! There is just so much to infant feeding that trying to learn it all after birth can be overwhelming. Getting the right information from the start can make such a big difference to a family's postpartum journey. I am so grateful to be able to connect with parents online at a time when support may be minimal! #yesthatisaboobonmydesk #covidhairdontcare #ilovemyjob

I may be on holidays right now, but I will be returning to work on January 5th seeing patients in-person. Physiotherapists are regulated health professionals and as such we are deemed essential during this lockdown. We will keep up our rigid COVID screening and cleaning procedures as well as continue wearing masks & PPE. Of course, if you prefer I can also do a virtual appointment.... Looking forward to seeing you in 2021! Happy Holidays

REMEMBRANCE DAY . Remembering all veterans, and my grandpa (Bruce Smith) and grandma (Eileen Smith) who both served in the Canadian Army. . My grandpa drove artillery trucks in WW II, one of the most dangerous jobs. He never talked much about it, but he did tell stories of playing poker to see who was in the front lines the next day! He also told us, he survived one night by "playing dead" and hiding under a dead German soldier and dead horse. ... . I remember complaining once about food, and he quickly told me that by the time the supplies got to them a loaf of bread would be fully green with mold, but they were so hungry they would scarf it down like it was freshly baked! . . He was never physically injured, but when he got home he hated the sound of small planes flying over the farm....reminded him of the bombers. . . I cannot begin to imagine! The sacrifices they made for us allow us to live the lives we do today. Lest we forget. . . #thankyougrandpaandgrandma #canada #thankyousoldiers #thankyouveterans #remembranceday #lestweforget See more

Are you expecting a fall or winter baby ? If so, you will want to get your hands on all the info you can, especially during these strange times. We have been running these Empowered Childbirth Classes for over 2 years now and weve had such great feedback on them. We do this because we are all moms, and there are so many things we wished we had known about pregnancy, birth prep, labour & delivery, and recovery & nursing postpartum. Having this information well befo...re you go into labour helps you practice breath, comfortable positions and more. It also helps you understand nursing, and provide you with valuable resources. Check out the poster below and call: 519-857-4467 OR email: [email protected] to sign up!

Looking for people with pelvic pain! We need your help! Please, please, please consider doing this survey for us! We need help from as many clients as we can! Researchers at Curtin University are testing a new questionnaire for people experiencing ongoing pelvic pain. Do you have pelvic pain, are you over 18 and do you have 25 minutes to complete an online survey? By completing the survey, you will be helping health care professionals understand how you feel when you are in... pain. There is also a chance to win an Amazon voucher by participating in the survey. The survey is available online at: curtin.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_788V14s5pZ1mysl This study has been approved by the Curtin University Human Research Ethics (HREC) (approval number: HRE2020-0302).

Attention parents of girls , especially tween girls and younger! Virtual learning did not include Changing me for those in grade 5 and above, but bodies dont wait for education to change. Below the Belt, how to be queen of your pelvic region is a wonderful book that explains more than just periods. Lots of my fellow pelvic health physio friends approve this book. It talks about pelvic floor muscles, and why they are important, hormones, periods, anatomy and more.... It is well written, fun to read, with lots of illustrations to help the information make sense. These conversations always are easier before they become tweens, so gifting the right book is a good way to make sure they have the information they need at their finger tips. There is so much women dont even know about their bodies, that is why I love this book! It explains it all with a great understanding of anatomy ie. vulva vs. vagina/ labia minora vs. labia majora. All women should know the difference, and not be ashamed about their body parts....lets start them young. Another great book is: Sex is a funny word....it talks about all kinds of relationships: straight, gay, trans. It is full of cartoons, so easy to read...appropriate for all. Posting this as a pelvic health physio and parent of a tween . Hope it helps! And PS: it wont hurt boys to read these books too! Sex is a funny word is for everyone!

We are open! I may look different with PPE and scrubs, and you will look different too, as we ask all patients wear a mask or we will give them one to wear. We also have screening measures in place and strict cleaning protocols after each patient. My hours have changed slightly to accommodate my family. I am also an teacher now (but not a good one ...hats off to them, I will be glad when kids can safely go to school). I work: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Frid...ay 12pm to 4:30pm for now. I can be flexible though. For those who cannot come to clinic, or feel safer receiving therapy at home, I am still offering virtual therapy. My tech skills have improved (a bonus of covid) and I can assess and provide treatment online that is covered by most extended health plans. Clearly pelvic exams and manual therapy cannot be virtual, but I take a good history and have almost 10 years of experience in pelvic health, so I can put the pieces together and I have great online exercise videos that I can send to you! Over the past 2 months I have been seeing pregnant, postpartum & pain patients via videoconference. So whatever your needs are, I am here! If you have questions or want to schedule an appointment, please contact me via email or telephone: Email: [email protected] Phone: 519-386-4443 I have missed my patients so much! I am happy to see you all again even if we can just see each others eyes ....no need for lipstick or blush !

Taylor Physiotherapy 05.04.2020

EXCITING NEWS - Empowered Childbirth We have some amazing news about our upcoming Empowered Childbirth Education class. We have been able to condense it into a 4 hour session on Sunday May 24th from 10am-2pm. ... We have also reduced the price to $150. You still get the same great information and techniques, but you get to enjoy the sun on Saturday and learn while it rains on Sunday (if the weather man is right ). We have had such fun teaching this course. We do it because we are all 3 moms that Wish we had known....before baby was born.....and we hear this all the time from other mamas. Lot of moms wish they had more info on breathing techniques, pain management, and positioning. They also wish they were warned about how their body would feel, how to heal from a c-section or tear, and how to safely get back to exercise and the activities they love. Moms also struggle with breastfeeding and knowing what to do and what issues might arise ahead of time can help lead to success! This is our 7th ECE course and we love helping pregnant mamas and their partners! These are different times, but childbirth is still the same. You will have all our resources and be able to access us for support! We are here to help you and empower you with knowledge and informed choice. Knowledge is power! To register, please email: [email protected] Or call/text: 519-857-4467 Looking forward to meeting you

Masks - do you have one? I think the best way to protect ourselves and others during this pandemic is to wear a mask in public, along with the traditional measures of hand washing , staying 2 metres (or more) away from people, and of course, staying home if you are unwell. I am hoping well soon find out when physios and other allied health professionals like massage therapists & chiropractors can see patients in person again. I am sure there will be screening & restric...tions in place! If that involves wearing a mask , Ill be ready. I have a few designs now thanks to some handy friends! I am looking forward to the day when our clinic reopens and I can see my colleagues & patients again! Until then, I will continue to serve my patients via Telehealth! If you havent already heard, Greenshield is covering Telehealth Physiotherapy Visits! Have a wonderful weekend everyone! And remeber, I can still help you virtually!

Taylor Physiotherapy 24.12.2019

Yes I did! I got that T-shirt! It is perfect for my line of work and $10 goes towards supporting frontline workers. Sure, we shouldnt be speaking moistly, but we do want our vaginas to be moist. For a lot of women, this can be a big problem. Lack of estrogen during menopause or when breastfeeding can cause vaginal dryness. This can create uncomfortable symptoms like pain with intercourse, itching, burning, fissures and more. If you suffer from these symptoms, ther...e is help! There are hormonal and non hormonal solutions - My friend Dr. Kara Dionisio, ND is a master at prescribing custom compounds for vaginas. Your vagina does not have to feel like a desert...we can help! I am still seeing patients via Telehealth during this time. If you would like to book a visit: Call: 519-386-4443 Email: [email protected] Gords Imprints & Design Huron Shores Massage Therapy

Call 519-386-4443 Or email: [email protected]

For all my new mamas and moms to be, we know you are feeling alone & isolated. We also know breastfeeding is not easy for many, and you need support (weve both been there). TELEHEALTH PHYSIO COMING NEXT WEEK... Starting next Thursday April 2nd I will be offering Telehealth visits 2 days a week! This is ideal for my pregnant or postpartum patients, post-surgical, prolapse or pain patients. But really anyone will benefit if you want some basic tips, tricks & expertise to get you through these isolating times.... Many of you who have seen me know I spend a good deal of time on history, education and trying to problem solve. I can still do this easily online or over the telephone. I also have many resources to help you including video exercises and handouts. In my 20 years of Physiotherapy practice, and 9 years doing pelvic health, I never thought thought this would happen, but here we are. I may miss using my hands, but I can tell you confidently, that most of your recovery comes from using a biopsychocial approach, and this can be done virtually! A good history and rapport are key! If you are interested or need help please call: 519-386-4443 or email me: [email protected] I can still help from a distance. Stay healthy, Janice

I am sorry to say I will be closing the clinic for the next 2 weeks (March 17th - March 30th) in order to protect everyone from Covid-19. This is a serious public health issue and we all need to work together to stop the spread. I will look to updates from the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario for direction on a date to re-commence in-person treatment. I will contact all patients booked in the next 2 weeks to reschedule. I can also offer online services through Zoo...m for those patients that do not require a face-to-face visit. If you have further questions or concerns please email me at: [email protected] I am committed to helping you in any way that I can. We will get through this together!

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY . . In this picture you see 3 professional women: a physiotherapist, a police officer, and a business woman...all sisters who came from a low income, single parent family. This would not have been possible even 50 years, ago. We were born at the right time and I thank my lucky stars ! You also see a 6 year old girl who is watching what her mom and aunts are accomplishing! .... Women gained the right to vote in 1918, but it took the provinces decades to fall in line. It wasnt until 1951 when all white women could vote, indigenous women could not vote til 1960 (this was only 60 years ago)!!!!! . . Women first competed in the Olympics in 1928 (Olympics started in 1896), and didnt become persons under the law til 1929 (only 91 years ago were we deemed equal to men). Being a person under the allowed women to hold political office. A place where there is still not enough women! . After the 2nd World War women started working outside their homes, but pay was not equal, and although improved, it still is not equal to men today! . . Women are leaders, peacekeepers, researchers, caregivers, multitaskers and so much more! We have come so far in the last century but we still have a distance to go. We need to end gender-based violence, ensure equal pay, end the pink tax, improve healthcare (especially postpartum care), and be equal participants in politics! . . So lets celebrate today and how far we have come, but keep our vision on a future of true equality. . . #internationalwomensday #equalrights #equalpay #equalhealthcare #peacekeepers #leaders #researchers #politicians #womenaresmazing #womencandoanything See more
