CHANGES TO YOUR UTERUS During pregnancy your uterus will change significantly in size. It goes from weighing about 50g (size of an orange) to 2lbs (size of a watermelon). This is why we slowly taper exercise as we go through pregnancy as to accommodate all of these new changes and pressure you pelvic floor must support! This is why even if you’ve had a cesarean, you can still have issues like prolapse and incontinence. Increase in weight and pressure over 9 months is a LOT!... Therefore proper exercises, core work and proper rehab postpartum are really important! @ Halifax, Nova Scotia

YES YES YES... BUT... First off, let's just be really clear... THERE IS NO PERFECT SQUAT FORM! WHAT?! My knees can go over my toes? Yep. ... I don't have to break 90? Nope. I can lean forward? Yep. My toes don't have to point forward? Yep. As long as it feels good to you, it works! During pregnancy things change; your centre of mass, your balance, weight, bone structure, rib cage, ability to breathe... everything. As these changes occur, a squat that has less depth, more depth, back supported with a wall or ball, knees more over toes may actually feel better to you! And it is all perfectly fine! Why do squats? Because you do them all the time anyways! How do you sit on the toilet? How do you get out of bed? How do you get off the couch? Squatting is everywhere! Let's keep you strong in that squat! Remember, if it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. There are conditions in pregnancy where exercise is contraindicated, or you may need more specific guidance, so medical clearance is always important. If you aren’t sure about your squat, chat with us! We can help walk you through the best squat for you!
