Peninsula Residents celebrate Robbie Burns Day! Scottish treats such as Haggis, shortbread cookies, and chocolate cupcakes were served right at their door steps.

Everyone came prepared and had a lot of fun with our Ugly Sweater Party! *Please note that this party was held before restrictions were put in place.*

Last week, we celebrated our Recreation Manager Diane Toth's last day at the Peninsula. Diane made an incredible impact on the residents, staff and families. During her eight years at the Peninsula, Diane put her heart and soul into every event and activity. Her hard work, kindness, dedication and leadership have made the Peninsula a wonderful place that we can all call home. We will all miss her tremendously but are happy for her to pursue her future endeavours in retirement. The Peninsula thanks Diane for everything that she has done for us. She will be greatly missed

Our Busy hands (knitting, quilting, crochet club) finished and almost finished projects! All will be donated to worthy causes throughout the community.

The Maypole dance is a ceremonial folk dance around a tall garlanded pole with flowers and ribbons. The ribbon is woven in a pattern thru dance. This is an ancient dance celebrating Spring. The Peninsula dance club reenacted a version of this dance, for their fellow residents. We are so proud of them!

We honoured Sean Connery today with some of the actor’s trivia and pictures. Lady Luck and the Bond girl was there to provide shaken not stirred martinis and his favourite scotch!

Let’s talk turkey! Our crafty ladies were at it again, creating this darling pinecone turkey. It brought many smiles and giggles, another thing we are so grateful for here at the Peninsula. Happy Thanksgiving!

Our wonderful Recreation assistants graduated high school this past June. Unfortunately due to Covid 19 were unable to attend prom and therefore didnt get the opportunity to wear their beautiful grad dresses. We at the Peninsula decided to honour this milestone and celebrate these young ladies. Our residents were thrilled to participate and share in this memory. Both Miranda and Addie said they will never forget having their prom at a retirement residence!

Happy Canada day! Celebrating our great countrys 153rd birthday with the fabulous Fera Brothers. We proudly wore our red and white as we sang the anthem and some Canadiana songs.

BC strawberries are the sweetest and so are our Residents!! We celebrated both with a Strawberr Festival! The kitchen created a strawberry infused menu both for lunch and dinner. (strawberry soup, strawberry salsa chicken, strawberry prawn salad, strawberry Merlot sauce pork, strawberry shortcake, strawberry cheesecake just to name a few things that were on the menu) The Rec team made up some delicious strawberry milkshakes at lunch and in the afternoon played some strawberry themed party games with themed prizes of course and strawberry margaritas! Thank you Arjuna farm (a local farm in Abbotsford) for producing such tasty berries for us!

Happy Fathers Day to our Peninsula Dads! The weather cooperated for the social hour celebrating these wonderful men! Thank you to the duo Each Other, for entertaining all (outside), our Rec team for their creative decorating and gifts and our Culinary team for the fabulous bbq lunch and dinner!

Residents were missing their Timmys fix, so we created our own mobile Tim Hortons!

Did someone say BBQ? Every Wednesday, throughout the summer the grill will be fired up for lunch at the Peninsula serving a variety of seared favourites. A feature cocktail to enjoy with the meal makes it even more fun! This Wednesday, it was Sangria and ice tea!

The Resident Gallery is an opportunity for our residents to display something they are proud of. Many talents were showcased at our latest exhibit!

We added a special Victoria Day tea to the end of lunch service. We pulled out our collector tea cups and our culinary team put together delicious sweets. This was served and elegantly displayed by our Recreation team of Diane & Addie and Retirement Counsellor, Bette. Pinkies in the air everybody!

Happy Mothers Day! We started the day with a special breakfast of Eggs Benedict either with smoked salmon or Canadian bacon and a MOM-osa (champagne & oj) accompanied by a rose! Then at lunch everyone was serenaded by the fantastic Flanegans (The duo played outside on the patio, while the residents lunched) Gifts of Mary Kay products (donated by Terri Burton, MK rep) were given out. The day ended with a decadent lobster dinner and fried prawns. (There was also a succulent steak option.) Dessert was mango mousse cake with a tuxedo cake! We love our Moms can you tell?

We are so proud of our resident Mary, she has made over 200 masks to donate! Edit: Mary would like to thank all those that donated fabric and elastics that made this project possible. We appreciate it so much!!

Our beauty shop drops outs were at it again, making our residents look their best for this weekend and Mothers Day! Our new GM got in on the act and was our special barber for some of our male residents too! Dont we look great?

Our resident book club just finished their latest read The little old lady that broke all the rules. .

Happy Cinco de Mayo! What a day! We learned and then danced the Macarena, enjoyed some margaritas during our almuerzo (lunch) and then the travelling cantina roamed the halls and brought us delicious hot churros and Mexican beer or ice tea! We snuck in a few Mexican hat dances in the hallways! Viva Mxico!

We have lots of ways to keep connected with your loved ones! From setting up Zoom, Skype or FB portal calls to our Romeo & Juliet family suite. Just give us a call and we would love to help set it up! Stay safe and healthy everyone!

Dreaming of our beautiful oceans and keeping ourselves busy crafting with seashells. We love our crafty ladies of the Peninsula!

The SS Peninsula was floating around the hallways of our community handing out rootbeer, coke and orange crush floats to all the residents. A little sweet treat always brings a smile.

This was one of my best days ever in retirement living. I am lucky enough to work with the best Managers. We could not have done this without our resident Mary who worked tirelessly along side us. Great food and music made for a fantastic day!

We all know that looking good, makes you feel good. During this pandemic of course its impossible to go to a salon ..So we created a Beauty School Dropout Salon in the Activity Room of the Peninsula. Team members washed, curled, styled and trimmed throughout the afternoon. We also pampered our residents with facial masks. Listening to musical favourites and enjoying some delicious treats made for a magical day. Thank you to Legends Academy for donating the tools to allow us to make our residents feel good!
