I was incredibly lucky to receive my brand new accordion - my dream instrument - and spend time with the gracious Pigini Accordions team in Castelfidardo, Italy one year ago, before the world got turned upside down! Their attention to detail, and willingness to create a unique instrument for me has led to so many musical discoveries already. Bill Macen’s Birthday Remembering Bill Macen today, on what would be his birthday. I studied accordion with this special person and friend for over 20 years, starting when I was very young It was because of him that I am playing today. I went through ups and downs growing up, as we all do, and when I thought about stopping the accordion in my teens, he convinced me to continue playing. How would I have ever guessed that it would lead to a real life-long passion and car...eer in music? A teacher not only provides information, but also energy and belief in the student. It is rare in life to meet a person that really sees you for who you are and believes in you. This was one of these rare people in my life. Bill impacted Calgary for sure, teaching many accordion students from his Macen Accordion Studio on Centre Street in Calgary. Not surprisingly, many of his students are still playing today. This shows how important it is to find the right teacher when a student is young. If the student and teacher are the right match, then that student will be encouraged to continue.
