The government of Canada has announced big changes to help international students who wish to study in Canada. Students can begin their education online from their home countries if their institution is offering online programs and they will be eligible to apply for post-graduate work permit provided they applied for a study permit and at least 50% of the study is completed in Canada. IRCC has implemented a two-stage study permit approval process for the international studen...ts who wish to start the study in fall semester and who submit the study permit application before September 15, 2020. Temporary stages for study permit approval are: 1. Approval in principal: Students need to show the proof that they have been enrolled at Canadian learning institution, have enough funds available and are eligible for study permit. Once they receive approval in principle, students will be able to start studying online from home country and that time will be counted towards eligibility of post-graduate work permit provided they will eventually receive final approval on their study permit application. 2. Eligibility and admissibility: Students will need to meet eligibility and admissibility requirements that include biometrics, medical examination, police certificate and other necessary documents. Recently, Canada has announced air travel restrictions to all foreign nationals with some exceptions to protect Canada from the outbreak of COVID-19. Canadian citizens, per...manent residents and their immediate family members can enter Canada during this travel restriction with 14 days of self isolation period. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has suggested students, foreign workers and approved permanent residents not to plan their travels to Canada until the new information is released from IRCC.
