Pressure Mapping is one of the tests applied to characterize a cushion. One of the main goals with wheelchair cushion is to provide pressure redistribution. Pressure Mapping uses a mat with sensors to reveal areas of intense pressure when someone is seated or lying down. The mat can also show how best to achieve pressure relief. #MotivationalMonday from Bethany (https://bit.ly/3nCieXu) "Sometimes I am afraid of my body. . I’m afraid of the unpredictability of my disability. Of waiting and watching my conditions, knowing they’re likely to get worse. I even fear people cause the actions of other people can make me extremely sick and I cannot stop it.... . A lot of us put on brave faces when we talk about our illnesses. I often laugh when describing the worst parts of my conditions. Sarcasm. Dry humor. They’re all just blankets I use to cover up the true emotions. Maybe it’s just me, but on most days I am truly fearful of what my body may become. Especially in regards to allergies as I continue to develop new food allergies, more severe reactions, and even more medication allergies. If you are afraid of your body because of what it has done to you, you are not alone. We are all struggling to accept some aspect of ourselves. Those emotions are valid and you are allowed to feel them." #YouAreNotAlone #ValidEmotions #WheelchairUser #TiLiteUser
Falls are the leading cause of injury for older adults across Canada, accounting for over 81% of all injury-related hospitalizations. Falls are the leading cause for hospital admissions from injuries for children ages 0 to 9. 4 out of 5 injury hospitalizations involving seniors were because of a fall.... Fall Prevention Month encourages organizations to coordinate their efforts for a larger impact. Canadian organizations participate by planning initiatives and sharing evidence-based information on fall prevention. Together we can raise the profile of fall prevention and help everyone see their role in keeping adults and children safe as they age. Tomorrow is #WorldWidePressureInjuryPreventionDay, and here is a very honest and eye-opening story from Diane about her experience with pressure ulcers. When we did get the break in the skin I thought it would just heal up on its own. I didn’t know pressure sores existed. None of my family had them so if you’re not in the medical word you [don’t know] about these things. #StopPIDay2020 #StopPUDay2020 #WheelchairUsers... Tomorrow is #WorldWidePressureInjuryPreventionDay, so we wanted to share our 10-part blog series on Wound Care (links to each part are in the photo descriptions). When we talk about wounds caused by pressure, we often only consider the pressure on our bottom. However, pressure can be created by any support surface that comes in contact with the body. We’re proud that our #SmartActuators in combination with our Independent Repositioning Mode (IRM) feature allow those who have high pressure relief needs to have their wheelchair automatically go through a pre-programmed sequence into the perfect position with use of a single switch or button whenever and wherever they are! Pressure injuries usually occur over bony prominences as a result of pressure in combination with shear forces. Individuals with mobility impairments are ...especially at risk, so wheelchairs that incorporate tilt-in-space and recline functions are routinely prescribed to redistribute pressure away from their ischial tuberosities (sitting bones). Want to know how to get the most out of your IRM? Today is #WorldWidePressureInjuryPreventionDay, and it is important to spread awareness - watch the evolution of a pressure injury (please note we are warning you of graphic images in this video from Wounds Canada). "Experts report that 60% of persons with spinal cord injuries (SCI) are likely to develop a pressure injury in their lifetime and 1 in 10 persons with SCI dies from pressure injuries. Persons with SCI also face urgent and unique challenges with weight changes and corresponding health and wellness risks." (https://bit.ly/3nkylc0) #StopPIDay2020 #StopPUDay2020 #WheelchairUsers
