Pressure Mapping is one of the tests applied to characterize a cushion. One of the main goals with wheelchair cushion is to provide pressure redistribution. Spina bifida is a condition that affects the spine and is usually apparent at birth. It is a type of neural tube defect. "I have always been an INCREDIBLY independent person. Ask anyone who's known me for awhile. Once my illness hit, I slowly lost much of my independence. It was extremely painful. Once it got to the point where I needed a wheelchair, I was crushed. Until I realized something. Using mobility aids- forearm crutches, a cane, power chair, wheelchair, etc.- isn't an indication of how helpless you are. They give you freedom! Using a mobility aid doesn't make you less capable, it give...s you the ability to do more than you'd ever be able to otherwise!
