I'm hearing a lot around supporting our local economy, here are some facts and ideas to help generate some conversation: Facts: - Small businesses are the backbone of local economy. However, reports show that the average annual small business growth and employment rates declined between 2013-17 in Nova Scotia. - There are approximately 60 businesses in District 11 alone!... - Major events at sites such as the RECC and Provincial Exhibition grounds, attract visitors and spending at local businesses. - There is growth potential in a sustainable economy. - Youth want to be where future opportunities lie. What the Municipality can do: - Source local products and services - Continue to invest in regional economic development partnerships to grow and celebrate our local economy, including buy-local campaigns. - Support efforts to increase major events being hosted in the area, bringing more tourism spending to the county. - Promote the new Cliffs of Fundy UNESCO Global Geopark, as well as our regional parks as tourism destinations. - Develop partnerships to encourage investment in innovative new industries, specifically around the green economy. - Create a youth retention strategy, including a focus on young entrepreneurs.

High turnout for the advance poll today, including Lori and I!
Hi everyone, A friendly reminder to exercise your right to vote, the first advance poll if today from Noon to 8 pm at the Bible Hill Firehall. Thanks to all of you who have wished me well, have indicated I have your vote, and who have raised issues and asked great questions. I have really enjoyed the campaign, I have been on almost every doorstep in District 11. We have incredible people from all walks of life including many front line and essential workers who have helped us... all get through some tough times. I started this campaign with six priority areas, you can find those on my website. In addition to these, I’ve fielded concerns on everything from the state of our roads, the size of government, doctor recruitment and getting value for tax dollars; to very specific topics such as controlling the deer population, the use of fireworks, and online voting. One thing is consistent, people want to be heard. As we look forward to the next 4 years, I can bring a fresh approach, new energy, and promise to be accessible and fight for the issues that matter most to you. I will be a proactive member of council. I’ll engage, I’ll listen and I’ll act. I hope I can count on your vote! Together, let’s make Colchester County and District 11 the very best. - Peter

A few signs left, any takers?
Hi everyone. The first advance poll is Thursday! Very exciting! If you or someone you know is unable to make it to the polls due to illness or being away, you can vote by proxy. Contact me of you need a form. Also, if you didn’t receive your voting card, you can register at the poll.
Another amazing day on the campaign trail walking between College and Pictou Rds. My incredible wife Lori charted our path, while Ollie kept the map up to date with our progress . What a gorgeous weekend, we are blessed.
Great afternoon walking Bible Hill, you see so much more of your community when you are on foot. It’s home to mixed types of housing, small businesses, public services, schools, trails and more, which all contribute to a vibrant and sustainable community. I found a great spot to rest on my journey, an outdoor classroom tucked under some trees at the Colchester Christian Academy, my former school when it was East Court Rd Elementary. And a spooky Halloween graveyard, too. The Village did a nice job on their new signs and banners.
Great refreshed look!
