A beautiful brooch which was donated under the story of Flora MacDonald's brooch, but with a bit of further digging we came up with a different answer!

Day 19 #Museum30 This beauty of a light came from the Denne family ca. 1900! It once held gas lights but was later wired for electric bulbs. The crystal globes that would enclose the bulbs are also part of the collection. Brass and almost 3' in length, it was a stylish piece!

Day 18 #Museum30 "Dilemma" To call the flood of July 15 2004 a dilemma would be an understatement. The floods that swept through the city affected the PMA’s (Peterborough Museum and Archives) off-site storage vault at the Peterborough Public Library. Floodwaters submerged the first level of shelves, affecting 10% of the collection. This included 115 storage containers containing 30, 000 negatives and related photographic documents from both the Balsillie Collection of Roy St...udio Images and the Parks Studio Collection including, mixed media including glass plate, nitrate, and acetate negatives, pencil and ink on paper envelopes, photographic prints, and proofs. Museum officials enacted the disaster plan and decided to bring in the Rosco Group of Montreal. Rosco is a leading company in restoring disaster-damaged material. After 24 hours the floodwaters receded, and staff were able to get into the vault and begin the clean up. With a limited time window to salvage the flood-damaged material staff loaded the boxes onto a Roscoe’s freezer trucks for the trip to Montreal. With the flooded material now safety stabilized (frozen) the work began to clean up the library and the vault to prevent any further problems with mould or mildew on the remainder of the collection. The remaining 90% of the PCMA s collection was wrapped in plastic while the area was dried, cleaned and stabilized!

Earlier this week, we said goodbye to the Cipher | Decipher exhibition, which was an absolute pleasure to host. The team carefully packed 14 crates worth of artifacts, interactives, displays and electronics - ready to be shipped back to the Canada Science & Technology Museum. Our next exhibit is "Snapshots of Peterborough: 1900 - 1950" that will provide a glimpse into some of Peterborough's lesser-known stories from the past. This exhibit is scheduled to open on Saturday, October 3rd.
