Peterborough Ultimate League 12.01.2021

We have decided to move ahead and run two very small indoor leagues at the Old Milbrook Arena. We understand not everyone is comfortable with this, but some members are and we need to give those members the opportunity. The new venue will be the Old Milbrook arena which has changed the ice into a turf-like area (it's outside carpet on top of the cement).... https://www.pultimate.ca/indoor-is-happening/

This just in from Ontario Ultimate: In case you haven't heard, December 5th is International Spirit of the Game day (#iSOTGDay) and WFDF is hosting a Global Virtual Scavenger Hunt. This could be something good to share with your membership and help maintain that sense of community in lieu of being able to play games. Best of luck, here's to an Ontario team winning the whole thing! All details can be found at the link here: So I'm sharing. Have fun and good luck. https://www.pultimate.ca/international-spirit-of-the-game-/

Our time at the Spiplex may be over, but our memories will remain. Here is a look back at some of our more recent teams. On to better, brighter, and less smelly places... https://www.pultimate.ca/a-look-back/

Late Friday, we received word that the new owners of the Spiplex would no longer be taking bookings for the winter season. By mid-Monday, the reason had become clear: they are no longer supporting field sports, and converting to a basketball facility. Looks like some leagues were caught even more off guard than we were, with active bookings simply being terminated. [ 110 more words ] https://www.pultimate.ca/the-spiplex-is-closed-to-us/

Thanks to everyone who responded to our Return to Play survey last month. Over a hundred (110 to be specific) responded, which speaks to our membership's investment in this sport and the PUL community. We saw a pretty even split in opinions, those wanting to play now, those advising caution, and a slightly stronger preference for Indoor if we waited until the second season (January/February start). To the rest of the ultimate world, Harvest 2020 was unfortunately postponed. Leave it to the defending 2019 Champs, Pax 6 to come up with some fun and creative ways to keep Harvest in their hearts. Harvest 2020: v.Pax6 was held.New venue: Ottawa (don't worry, it won't stay there.)Weather: Perfect, by tradition. That's a wrap, folks...or at least it should've been. Tonight would've been the final finals of the season. Someone has hoisted the Big Wiener, perhaps fit the Wednesday puzzle pieces together, and tonight someone takes down those naughty Big Rats, finally, probably, maybe. It was a tough call cancelling the season, especially as fields cautiously opened back up. But community health is always at the forefront of the Board's thinking, and we stick by that decision. Today ends our 8-week Rule Challenge. Greyhounds, from Thursday night is our team winner by a landslide. Congratulations. (And no, they do not win All the Marbles away from Big Rats (formerly known as AWN)). But they do win the $100 towards a team get together when they choose to do so. (If it is during the Covid-19 times, please be responsible and physically distance with one another. [ 244 more words ] https://pultimate.ca/its-a-wrap-3/

As you likely know, the Peterborough County is in "Phase 3" of reopening. In response to this, the City of Peterborough has indicated that it may let out permits for the fields. Unfortunately, the PUL Board feels that it is not yet safe enough to resume ultimate at this time. We are now late enough in the summer, that this decision will affect the rest of the regular season. There is good news and bad news. The good, 83% of respondents got 100% on this quiz, with the overall average of 9.78/10. The bad news, there were only 18 of you. Well done my hard core players. You either really know your stuff, or I made the quiz too easy, maybe both, but I'll go with you really knowing the rules! [ 183 more words ] https://pultimate.ca/results-for-week-6/

With the Ontario government reopening nearly all businesses and public spaces Friday July 17th some will ask the obvious, what does that mean for PUL and ultimate? The short answer is we do not yet know. In order for us to run any official games, we will need to have city approval and there is much to be done at the city level before opening up can happen.
