SAFE BACKHAND - not swinging into T area Thanks to Gabriel Savaria for finding this coaching video from the world’s best players. Notice that at no point in any... of the their backhands, does the follow through of the arm or the racket break the horizontal plane that goes parallel to the side wall and through their playing shoulder and towards or into the T. The high follow through is in their own space (between themselves and the wall) and even if it did stray toward the T area with that follow through, it would be far higher than their opponent’s head. In fact, this is a coached technique at higher levels where top players know this is how a correct backhand is played and players actually duck under the armpit of the player as he strikes knowing it’s going to be absolutely safe as the arm is going high up into the air.

Happy Saturday folks! I published an article last week called 'the different types of squash player, according to what's in their kit bag.' It's had over 1,500 ...hits on the article from Squash Stories alone, which is insane! There were loads more suggestions on here about the other different types of players that exist. One thing was pretty clear - there's lots of frustrating squash habits that different players bring to the court I've pulled together a pretty tongue in cheek follow up article - the sixteen irritating habits of squash players. Would love for people to have a read through - Are you guilty of doing any of these? can you think of any more?

If you play Squash you will come across one of these at some point...Yes the Ball....normally black but sometimes White and in the past Green the ball is a vita...l part of the game we call Squash because without this tiny object it would be impossible to know who was winning as everyone would claim their shot was brilliant. Facts about the Squash ball are hard to come by but here at SS HQ we have uncovered these top Facts that might surprise you. 1) A Ball that has been used in 2 matches ends up weighing 20% less than it did when it was new. 2) When sweeping a squash court floor 65% of the 'dust' is ball dust. 3) A cold ball in the knock-up is 50% more likely to break the strings in your racket. 4) Dunlop is the only ball worth bothering with. 5) A Squash ball hitting you on the leg at full force is painful but not the end of the world...get on with the game. 6) A squash ball is just small enough to fit inside your eye socket so never play the ball if there is a risk to your opponent's well being even if the ref hasnt awarded you a stroke. 7) The best way to warm a squash ball up is to hit it...squashing it with your foot, putting it under an arm-pit or using a strange torch-like ball warm-up machine are all a weird. Don't throw your Squash ball boxes away! These little guys are perfect for keeping valuables in..no one would want to steel a squash ball... 9) Always invest in new balls...shiny squash balls have only 65% of the grip-quality of a new ball....a win doesn't count when using one of these shiny shitters.. 10) If you do find yourself having to use a shiny ball find a carpet and rub the ball HARSHLY all over to tempererally revitalise it. 11) In play a ball can only be 'out' or 'in'...nothing inbetween. 12) A box of 12 new Dunlop balls direct from PDH sports weighs approx the same as 2 or 3 Squirells. 13) Squash balls found lying around the club are lying around the club for a reason...they are crap used and shiny so don't think you've had good fortune..its a trap. 14) a squash ball can only kill a wasp against a wall not in mid air..
