Friends - please consider signing. This petition asks the Treasury Board of Canada and the Partners Committee of the Public Services Health Care Plan to cover Acupuncture provided by Acupuncturists. Currently, the PHSCP provides extended health benefits to over 600,000 federal employees, but their acupuncture coverage is for acupuncture performed by Medical Doctors, not Acupuncturists. Medical Doctors receive 200 - 300 hours of training in acupuncture with 174 of those hours... being self-directed home study. Acupuncturists receive minimum of 3 years (1900 hours) training with minimum 450 - 500 patient contact hours, and must pass national examinations to be licensed. It's sad to see other healthcare providers appropriate parts of our effective medicine, and receive more support from medical coverage providers despite the extensive amount of training we receive to become a valuable addition to the medical field.
