Nothing like a gale force wind in Newfoundland! Peter captured Wings Island on an extremely windy day which can be seen from Greenspond, NL. Swipe right to see how we were almost blown away by the strength of the wind! The piece can be viewed on the web site or at the gallery. 18 x 36 oil on canvas #greenspondnl #pleinairpainting #oiloncanvas #artistsoninstagram #newfoundlandartist #windydays #newfoundlandlandscape #destinationstjohns #nlrourism #nlarts #peterlewisgallery

Next Stop - Harbour Breton - located on the Connaigre Peninsula. Peter's first visit to Harbour Breton and was instantly excited by the beauty of the area! It's a vibrant community with approximately 2079 residents. The fishery, although operating on a seasonal basis is still the mainstay of the economy. Peter was lucky - while painting someone brought him 4 delicious scallops to eat! People talk about the beauty of Gros Morne but the South Coast is just as beautiful! I highly recommend if you get the chance to come and explore this part of NL.

Next Stop - Fogo Island! We usually stay in Tilting but decided to stay at the beautiful new Escape by the Sea Chalets! Such an awesome location - you can hear the waves crashing on the rocks right by your bedroom window! The cold and wind continue to make painting en plein air difficult! Peter Lewis makes the best of it - managed to find the Freedom 55 boat to act as a wind block! Tomorrow is a travel day as it's calling for snow/rain tonight and tomorrow. Who knows where we'll end up!

Next Stop - Change Islands! It's located in Notre Dame Bay and has a population of around 200 residents. For people familiar with Fogo Islands it's on the same ferry run - you stop in Change Islands first. The island is small - a 32 km bike ride from one end of the pavement to the other and very little street lights. It makes for great star gazing - we even saw a falling star the other night! It's a painting and photography paradise! We were supposed to stay for 3 nights and since there was so many landscapes to paint we decided to stay for 6 nights. It helps that we have an amazing cabin right on the water! Life is great!

The next painting stop for Peter was Point Lance, NL. It's the community next to Branch and has a population of 102 according to the 2016 census. Careen is a common family name in Point Lance. There is an amazing beach and great wave activity which makes it very attractive for surfers. The location where Peter is painting usually has a herd of sheep that graze there. They were down on the lower flats the day Peter painted. If you look closely at the sky you can see the outline of sheep. He plans to paint sheep coming up the road in the painting! Point Lance is a beautiful spot and this painting is going to be a beauty!

Peter is on a painting road trip - journey 2.0! His first stop is the beautiful community of Branch NL, located on the Cape Shore of NL with a population of 228 according to the 2016 census. He has a connection to the community as his Grandmother was a Roche from Branch. A happy childhood memory for Peter was spending 2 weeks in Branch with Fred and Maureen Roche and going fishing on Mr. Roche's fishing vessel! Anyone who is from Branch has a strong connection to the community! I can see why! Next stop Point Lance, NL.
