Pet Pawdicures 01.02.2021

Hi everyone. Some reasonably good news for a change! Pet grooming services have now been permitted. I am permitted to offer curbside service only at this time. Due to personal circumstances (i.e. my childrens’ virtual school schedule) I will have very limited housecall appointments available. Please TEXT me at 905-782-8870 if you would like to schedule a housecall appointment for curbside service. My rates can be found here on Facebook or on my website at petpawdicures.com.... Curbside service is most appropriate for dogs, and those clients with a covered patio, or garage. All housecall appointments at this time will be weather pending. ALTERNATIVELY, I will be offering curbside nail trims at the Pet Valu location at Hurontario on Eglinton in Mississauga on Wednesday February 3 from 3pm - 7pm, and Saturday February 6 from 10am - 3pm. BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Service at the store will be $10 plus tax per pet. CURBSIDE PROCESS: Upon arrival you will call a number provided and bring your pet to the front door of the store. I will come outside to receive your pet. The service will be done inside the store with me. Once complete I will bring your pet back outside. Please have them in an appropriate pet carrier, or on a leash and collar, etc. The parking lot outside the store can be dangerous; please don’t bring your pet off leash or without a carrier. To make an appointment please call the store directly at 905-501-1176. The store address is 5029 Hurontario Street, Mississauga (Unit 3). I will add new dates at the store once available. Dogs, Cats, Rabbits and Guinea Pigs welcome! UPDATE: Next date at the store is Saturday, February 20th for anyone that wasn’t able to get an appt this week. I look forward to resuming full mobile service soon! (See website or service page for housecall rates) Thank you for your business, your support and your patience.

Hi everyone. Happy new year! I hope you are all safe and well. I just wanted to provide a little update on Pet Pawdicures service. Unfortunately with the current lockdown, any type of grooming is not considered essential, including nail trimming, unless it is for service animals. This means I am not offering nail trims at pet valu either for the time being. I hope that they lift or loosen these restrictions on January 23. Thank you for your patience.

Let’s talk about...CAT LITTER! Having five cats, I am very particular about my litter and my set up. My litter boxes are next to my furnace. Clay based litters are often dusty - and I don’t want that heavy dust in my furnace. I use an eco-friendly grass-based litter by Fresh4Life. ... Pros: it’s extremely light weight, low dust, great clumping power, good odor control, and it’s light in colour, which helps me see spot urinary issues (ie blood in urine). Cons: it’s so light weight, while easy to scoop, it is very easily tracked outside of the box. I use a large litter catching mat outside the boxes and I keep a small sweeper vac nearby. Also, it’s more expensive than clay litter. I do feel that I have to change it less often because if it’s clumping power so I don’t have to buy it as often, but it runs around $40 for a 20 pound bag. Most litters that are clay-based you will pay $10-$20 for the same capacity. I clean my litter every single day. Sometimes twice a day. If you have more than one cat I highly recommend this. It takes me less than five minutes to clean the litter including using my sweeper vac. If I were to clean them every other day or longer, I would need more boxes, more litter, and definitely more time. I’m a busy person, so I would rather clean them daily. I keep a large bucket lined with a heavy duty garbage bag next to the litter where I scoop the waste. It has a secure a lid for odor control and I change that bag once weekly. I absolutely love my litter boxes. They are by Savic Nestor. This post is mainly about my litter and set up So I will do a separate post about litter boxes in general. I hope this is helpful to my cat-loving friends. If there’s a particular topic you would like me to post about - please comment or send a message. I’m happy to help. Thanks for watching and reading! Hi all. Let’s talk dog food! I am often asked by clients: Am I feeding a good food or should I change? Generally, it you’re feeding a good quality food (either kibble, raw, wet, or some combination), your dog enjoys it, and is doing well on it, then there's no reason to change. However, if your dog isn’t enjoying the food, has stomach upset or loose stool or signs of an allergy (paw licking, skin flaking/patches/redness, etc.), then it might be time for a change. Today I...'m going to share with you what I feed my French Bulldog, Cola. As many of you know, I shop at exclusively at Pet Valu Hurontario & Eglinton in Mississauga, where I also offer nail trims twice weekly. Come and shop! Even if it's only curbside for now. LOL. Frenchie's are prone to all kinds of health issues, particularly with their skin and joints. To avoid issues, I feed a freeze dried raw diet. I also avoid Chicken where possible as it's a common allergen. I feed Primal brand, or Stella and Chewy's. If you feed raw, depending on the blend, it may be a completely balanced meal, but typically you must add Omega 3 to any raw diet. I like to add Grizzly Salmon Oil. In the morning, I add Head to Tails Vitamin+, Hip & Joint, and Skin & Coat supplements, and Big Country Raw Goat's Milk Probiotic. For dinner, I add homemade bone broth (see previous post), and Tri-Acta Hip & Joint support. For snacks I feed blueberries (great for tear stains), Crumps Sweet Potato Chews, Performatrin Ultra Freeze Dried Beef Liver, Benko beef sticks, or Earth Animal No Hide chews (a completely safe alternative to rawhide). I don't feed ALL of these every day. Sometimes I offer raw carrots, green beans, broccoli or other fruits...in very small amounts.Be sure to check if what you are feeding is safe for dogs. There are A LOT of foods that are very dangerous for your dog. Cola LOVES her food and supplements and is doing very well so I have no plans to change...but I might add traditional raw into the mix at some point. Thanks for reading! #petvalu2351 #primalpetfoods #stellaandchewys #crumpsnaturals #earthanimalnohide #grizzlysalmonoil #colathefrenchbulldog

Hi all. I own and operate Pet Pawdicures Mobile Nail Trimming Service in Mississauga. I love Natural Dog Company products...but they aren’t easy to find locally and expensive to order online from the USA. I have decided to become a retailer of some of their products. I religiously use their Pawtection and Skin Soother for my dog, and I just tried the shampoo bar and really liked it. For those interested I have a VERY limited supply of Snout Soother (2oz tin), Wrinkle Balm (2oz tin), and Spruce Up Pup Shampoo bars. Pricing is in the attached image. You can porch pick up or I’m happy to deliver for free if you’re in my immediate area...or will mail via Canada post at your expense. Thanks all!

Guess who laid some infertile eggs today?! Our bearded dragon, Spika! Thank goodness a family member told me this could happen to single beardie females because I had no idea! I was able prepare a special nesting area with special substrate just in time! No wonder she was obsessed with digging all the time! I wonder if she will lay some more this week.

After a short poll, it seems like everyone would like me to share some of the products I use for my own pets at home. So as a first post, let’s talk about BONE BROTH! Bone broth is excellent for your dog’s gut health. It’s full of collagen and gelatin, which can help prevent leaky gut, and improve digestion. I make homemade bone broth using a crockpot. You can get whatever animal bones you want from most grocery stores (ask for soup bones) and they are very inexpensiv...e. To make: boil the bones in the crockpot in a soup sock (like a cheesecloth bag) on low for 20-24 hours. Let cool. I like to put about a week’s worth in a mason jar in the fridge to use right away, and freeze the rest in ice cubes. In the fridge the broth will keep about a week. The layer of fat that forms on top helps keep the broth underneath. I shake my jar well before adding it to my dog’s food so she gets some of fat; if you are trying to eliminate fat from your dog’s diet then don’t shake the jar and carefully pour so the fat layer remains in the jar. I will thaw 1-2 ice cubes at a time as needed after that. I also like having the ice cubes for grab-and-go options...like If I need someone to look after my puppy overnight, I can simply pop out two cubes and be ready to go. To freeze the broth in the mason jar, tip the mason jar upside down for several hours to help improve the seal before putting it in the freezer. Don’t forget to leave a gap because it will expand when freezing and you don’t want the jar exploding in your freezer. For dogs under 20 pounds, give 1oz per day, for dogs 20 to 40 pounds give 2 oz a day, for dogs 50 to 80 pounds give 4 oz per day and for dogs over 80 pounds give us 6oz per day. One ice cube is about 1oz. Treat bone broth like a supplement or treat; it should not replace your dogs’ water intake, but can help add moisture to their diet. I hope this is helpful And now you can watch my puppy, Cola, slurping up her morning broth. If you have any questions or would like to ask me about particular products/issues feel free to do so. I’m happy to answer any questions I can, and if I don’t know the answer I can try to find out for you.

Enjoy the holidays and I am very hopeful that I can resume normal mobile service in the new year! Thank you soooooo much for your business, and patience during this time.

Hi everyone. Regular service has resumed...ALMOST. I am now accepting appointments in Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville and Burlington. I am unable to resume in Milton and Toronto as of yet due to scheduling restraints. I hope to be able to resume in these areas soon. Unfortunately, my schedule in general is far less flexible as it was pre-covid, but I will do my best to accommodate everyone. Daytime appointments are preferred. I am also available by appointment at the ...Pet Valu Hurontario/Eglinton location on certain dates. If you'd like to bring your pet to me at the store (the cost is $10+tax per pet at the store), then please call 905-501-1176 to reserve your appointment. The address is 5029 Hurontario Street, Mississauga. For everyone's safety, I will wear a gloves and mask if indoors (I may not wear a mask if outdoors and at a distance from clients). I look forward to seeing everyone!

Dear Valued Clients: The Ontario Government made an announcement that Animal Care Services, including grooming, may reopen May 19; however, it was not clear if this applies to mobile groomers, like myself, who go directly into homes. I contacted the government help-line for more details and they were unable to give me a straightforward answer. This wasn't very helpful or encouraging in regard to your safety and mine.... As most of you know, I have two young children to homeschool and my husband is a front-line shift-worker. This is yet another reason why I am so hesitant to start full-service again. I could bring the virus to you if I was unknowingly exposed and not yet symptomatic. At this time, I have made the difficult decision to only gradually reopen my service in order to avoid risking exposure to many people by entering and exiting homes - especially apartments/condos where the likelihood increases due to densely populated buildings with many common areas (lobby, elevators, etc.). However, I will be able to offer service in two ways: 1. Driveway/patio Service - Weather Permitting, By Appointment: Your pet must be secure on a leash/harness. This option is most appropriate for dogs and guinea pigs; dogs can be safely leashed and guinea pigs aren't much of an escape risk. Cats and rabbits, however, are different. If you have a very secure harness for your cat or rabbit and are sure they will not be able to escape from an outdoor area outside your home, then I'm happy to come. I will kindly ask that owners remain at the recommended 6 feet away. I will wear a mask and gloves when working with your pet. The pricing for this service will remain the same. If this is not feasible for you, I will also have the next option 2. Drop-off Service - PetValu - Hurontario/Eglinton (5029 Hurontario St.). Thursday, May 21, 12pm 4pm. Ph. (905) 501-1176 I will be available at this Pet Valu location on certain dates, and will be using their grooming room. This option is $10 plus tax, per pet, for nails. I will announce new dates as I schedule them. I expect to be available at the store 1-2 times per week, for 3-4 hour shifts. Please call the store to secure an appointment to avoid line ups. My first scheduled shift is Thursday, May 21, 12pm 4pm. I can't stress enough how much I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. I know how terrible it is to have your pets off their routines and scratching furniture, etc. I will do my best to accommodate everyone but appointments will be limited for a while longer. I strive to provide a wonderful service and the safety of you and your pets is my priority. I hope you can understand my decisions and I look forward to offering my regular service as the number of Covid-19 cases continues to drop and life returns to normal. Thank you again for your patience and your business. I really do miss all of you and your pets. Kindest regards, Sandra

I just found out that one of my very first client’s dog, Rylee, passed away yesterday. Rylee was a wonderful dog from a terrific family, and I really enjoyed our visits. While he wasn’t thrilled to have his nails done, he still greeted me with a happy tail and LOVED when I cleaned his ears...his reactions to this always made me laugh. It has been a privilege to work with Rylee and family, and I want to express my deepest condolences to Diana and family. RIP Rylee. Xoxo.

Hi there. Due to the social distancing issue, I am cancelling all appointments in March. If you had an appointment scheduled, I will reach out to you, hopefully in the first week of April. I'm sure you can understand that because I travel city to city and often to retirement homes, it isn't wise for me to take appointments at this time. I apologize for any inconvenience and I appreciate your understanding. Stay healthy!

Yesterday - My daughter and I found a pomeranian puppy running down an industrial road. His owner had brought him to work and didn't know he'd escaped. We took him to animal services to check for a microchip - and he had one! We reunited him with his owner in 1 hour! If you don't have a microchip for your pet, this is an amazing opportunity to get one for only $25 (usually about $70-$100). Also - if you don't have your pet up to date on his/her rabies vaccine - please consider this offer to do it. It helps protect you, other animals and ME when I'm working with your pets :). Thank you for reading!
