Yellow Jacket Wasp, Ground nest. If you see alot of activity around garden plants or vegetation without flowers. You may just have one! Most recent was quite large and appr 2ft deep. Luckily.. HERE COMES THE BOOM!!!!
Wasp season provides a lot of different styles of nests and species. This is a Bald Faced Hornets nest. One of the highest on the sting pain scale for Ontario. Stingers are not barbed, allowing them to sting more than once. Once pheromone detected, the others go into attack mode as well.

During this time many people will be using masks for the first time, or never have been trained the proper way to use them. An improperly applied mask is a waste of resources and doesnt provide the protection it was designed for. Removing the mask is just as important. Always top to bottom away from your face. Do not rest on forehead or remove upwards as this allows the exterior to shed particles that fall directly in front of your airways and eyes. With fumes, vapours or di...rect contact, Occular(eyes), are the highest absorption point. Protect them. If reusable mask, seal in an air tight container, baggy etc. Leaving open to air will reduce the life of proper filtering. If half mask with changeable filters, remove filters. Place in air tight bag or container, wash mask and also place in a bag or container. ***Tip, never pinch the metal nose band, gently form around your nose to get the best seal possible***** Please be safe. https://youtu.be/1511MQ7HYVs

Throwback Thursday..... How they used to catch a Possum! First they would dig a deep hole and fill it with ashes, from fireplace. ... Then place peas all around the perimeter. When A Possum would come to take a pee, they would kick it right in the ash hole...
Leave no stone un-turned when inspecting or treating for bedbugs. This was found while I was inspecting loose wallpaper in a bedroom. Just inspecting the beds is never enough. Furniture, drapes, curtain rods, etc.. In this case, I found the source after several other treatments by different companies that neglected to be thorough. Placement over quantity of chemical is the best practice. Dont use the: spray and spray, method...
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO, EVERYONE..FROM: PETRIES PEST CONTROL!!HAPPY NEW YEAR TO, EVERYONE..FROM: PETRIES PEST CONTROL!!
#TIPTUESDAY Happy Tuesday Caledonia. At this time of the year, we assume insects are all gone. The cold days and nights froze them. For most, yes, frost kills. Others over winter, never to be seen again until the spring. Hiding in wall voids, soffits and brick vents etc. Most that do come out are familiar and usually recognized. Centipedes, ants, silverfish, sow bugs, millipedes......... One little critter is a little more annoying. It is also mistaken for other insects and bugs that enter our homes "The Gnat" Can be mistaken for fleas, mosquitos, tiny phorid or drain flies. Common favourite breading and harbourage areas. EXTERIOR: Moist yard, soil and vegetation near home, gardens, plants, standing water, pooling areas, catch basin, culvert, lots of shade. INTERIOR: Around windows with excess moisture in the sill,(especially if window A/C.) dirty drains, floor drains, sump pump areas. This time of year is when potted plants come inside for the winter. The soil may already have eggs/larvae. If any questions about identifying an insect, please feel free to contact us. Please don't needlessly treat for an insect that is not present or needed. Proper treatment with minimal chemical is always best. It also costs much less.

Grasshopper... They belong to the Insect family and the suborder Caelifera. They are among what is probably the most ancient living group of chewing herbivorous(plant eaters) insects, dating back to the early Triassic around 250 million years ago. In this video I took you will hear the buzzing sound they make. This is to mark territory and attract mates. ... Truly a remarkable species.

WHACKY WEDNESDAY FUN FACTS. ***RAT "TAILS"**** Rats have a powerful social chain of command. The largest and strongest rats will get the best food and harborage. Rats have strong teeth that allow them to chew through glass, cinder block, wire, aluminum and lead.... 2 Rats can produce 65,000 offspring in one year. Rats do not have any thumbs. (Now we know why we never see them hitchhiking.) Rats are a very clean animal; they spend several hours per day grooming them. Rats very lovable animals. They love being in the group of their own species or humans. They like playing collectively and love to sleep curled up together. They take care of the injured and sick rats in their group. When rats dont have friendship, they can become lonely, depressed, anxious and stressed. A group of rats is called a mischief. Rats are sharp animals. They are more intelligent than rabbits, hamsters, mice, gerbils and guinea pigs for instance. They also have excellent memories. Once rats learn a direction-finding route, they never forget it. Rats have been used throughout history as food for people and pets, religious icons, laboratory animals, pets, mine detectors, animals used in sports (such as the now illegal practices of rat baiting with dogs,) and some have even been trained to drag wires through walls making some electricians jobs go much faster. Most rats are right-handed. Rats have been proven to make a laughter-like noise (unable to be heard by the human ear alone) when tickled and dream while sleeping. Inbred laboratory rats are created by breeding brother to sister for at least 300 generations. This produces animals who are more than 99% genetically identical, which is more similar than even current clones are! An adult rat can squeeze into your home through a hole as small as the size of a quarter. Rats can live for up to 18 months, but most die before they are one year old.
