I love spending the day cuddled up on the couch, sipping tea, eat leftovers, and enjoying copious amounts of movies and shows without a thought about all the work and home tasks on the to-do list. But rather, just being and relaxing and enjoying some much needed rest. It really helps to open up my mind again to inspiration, creativity, and a fresh start to a new week. What do you do before you start off yet another busy work week?... #selfcare #mentalhealth #mentalwellness #cozy #academiclife #studentlife #entrepreneurlife #writerslife

Danielle is also the Director of the Child and Adolescent Research and Education (CARE) Lab (@caretalkslaurier ). Her research focuses on the social-...emotional development of children and youth and their mental wellbeing. Danielles primary area of research focuses on online aggression, associated mental health concerns, responsible Internet use, and creating caring communities. The fall is always a time of dreaming and planning for me. As a new school year starts, I start to imagine new students, programs, changes... What are your dreams and goals on the first day of Fall? Since I'm a writer, I use journaling and aspirational notes as a way to set good intentions. ... I have a special box the I call a "God Box" that I add aspirational notes to. For example, start a podcast. Then, about once a year, I open up the box and see what seemingly impossible goals I have achieved. I throw out those notes and add a few more. The other thing I just started is a dream journal. In here, I write down more tangible and immediate dreams for the year in more detail. I use this to set my quarterly, monthly, and weekly goals. I'd love to hear some of your academic or writing goals for this Fall. If you're looking for a combination of academic and personal support to achieve those goals, reach out to @pfau_academicwriting for a free Zoom consultation. In #poetryclass we studied the #poeticform villanelle. Villanelle is a nineteen-line #poem consisting of five tercets followed by a quatrain. There are two refrains and two repeating rhymes, with the first and third line of the first tercet repeated alternately at the end of each subsequent stanza until the last stanza, which includes both repeated lines. How'd I do? Did I get all the elements? Anything missing?... If you're interested in trying out #poetrywriting or #creativewriting , check out our course listings at www.pfau.ca/our-events (link in bio - go to events calendar). Writer's block happens to the best of us. Sometimes we have so much going on in our minds that we can't compose a clear thought. In those instances, a great strategy is a mind dump. Get a pen and paper. Let go of the idea that you need to make sense or produce anything.... Put your pen on the paper and just write down whatever comes to mind. You can write in full sentences, bullet points, random words all over the page - whatever works in the moment. They key is to put all your thoughts down on the page. If you're struggling to get started, set a timer for 3-5minutes and commit to writing until the timer goes off. The extra pressure will kick start your brain. Once your finished dumping, take a look at your page and search for patterns. Start to put your ideas into categories and go from there. Try this method out next time you're stuck and let me know how it goes. If you're struggling with writing assignments and want a little extra guidance, one of our #essaywriting #onlinewritingclasses might be a great way for you to boost your writing skills and confidence. Today the sun is shining and I'm ready to go, but earlier this week I was hiding out like this bear. I was anxious and the gloomy fall weather made me want to hideaway from change and responsibilities in a cozy blanket sipping tea. That's not uncommon this time of year, especially with the additional stress of #covid19 encouraging isolation. But, I couldn't hide for long because I had a class to teach. And, ya know what, the more I worked on my course material and got to know... students, the more I started to look forward to this new term and everything I'd learn from them. I'm sure a bunch of you heading back to school and classes are feeling the same. This #fallterm @pfau_academicwriting is offering a unique #onlineclass in #essaywriting to provide #students with skill-building lessons combined with on-going #assignmenthelp. If you know you have a challenging #essay coming up and you're lacking confidence in your skills, you can learn various techniques and tricks, and apply them directly to your #researchessay while receiving continuous feedback from the instructor. It's pretty likely that by the end of this course you'll most definitely be getting some As. The transition from summer to fall is challenging for me. The shift in sunlight and temperature impacts my energy levels and mood. It can be hard to focus and get things done when I just want to cuddle up with a good book and cup of tea. Who's with me? This fall is particularly challenging because of the fears around #covid19 cases increasing as kids go back to school. Will this be the second wave? Will this ever end? There's a lot of transitioning happening this fall than la...st. During periods of change and uncertainty, it is increasingly more important to be resilient. But, what does that mean? Powering through despite the stress? Or, being kind and gentle with yourself as you maneuver through life's challenges? Last week's #podcastguest , @sarahlangcoaching , would suggest the later. I don't know about you, but as September approaches I'm feeling more apprehensive, and that's wearing me out mentally. I kinda feel like with all the anxiety and change in the air it's hard to rest even when I try to carve out that time. There's the continuous loom of uncertainty. So, I've been trying to give myself a break this week and celebrate me since it was just my birthday, while at the same time feeling guilty. Ugh... I'll be absent from social media and messages unti...l Tuesday so that I have that time to get grounded, and enjoy my birthday party on Sunday. Trying to make a conscious effort to appreciate the rest of summer before the school year takes off.
