We’d like to show some love and support for one of Pflag’s major sponsors, Fido. Fido continues to work with us to offer support and opportunities to better our communities nationwide. They began with their tablet and data offering for our Chapters this year, as well as a large-scale donation drive. Fido continues to offer their platform to showcase our work and encourage donations, such as the POSE-a-thon hosted earlier this year. Thank you Fido for supporting LGBTQ2S families and communities

Asexual means a lack of sexual attraction and doesn’t not reflect on a persons sexual experience, knowledge, or interests Ace is a common term used to self-identify for those identity falls within Asexuality. One of my most treasured memories of Pride is sitting at the PFLAG booth during Victoria Pride with my mum. When I came out to her years before that, it didn't... go well, and it took us about 10 years to get to a point where she could accept me for who I am. Part of that came through her involvement with PFLAG Canada, and that year, she volunteered to make dozens of rainbow-ribbon pins to give out at Pride. Standing with her at that booth and handing those pins out with her I get choked up just thinking about it. When I was younger, Pride was a time of celebration and asserting my identity as a queer woman. It felt like a time when queerness became the norm for a few days people just expected to see Pride celebrations everywhere. As I've gotten older, Pride has become less of a party for me and more of an opportunity to support organizations and artists that take Pride back to its roots of activism and social justice. I'll attend events like East Van Pride, the Vancouver Dyke March and Alternative Pride Vancouver. These feel more intersectional and political to me, which also feels safer and more fulfilling as a queer woman of colour. With so many events cancelled this year, my friends and I are having our own little Pride picnic at the park. These are folks with whom I've shared a lot of Prides with over 20 years' worth. It looks a little different these days, of course less alcohol, dancing and general naughtiness, and more strollers and baby wipes but a lot more comfort and calm, too. It's nice to celebrate Pride with folks who’ve made life as a queer person not just bearable and safe, but also utterly fulfilling and beautiful. The same goes for celebrating general happy gayness with my wife! Our wedding anniversary is shortly after Pride in Vancouver, so it's like successive days of gay gay gay, as it should be, Writer and high school English teacher Tanya Boteju shares what Pride means to her as part of our #XtraDIYPride feature every Friday. Read Boteju’s book, Kings, Queens And In-Betweens (Simon & Schuster), and look out for her next book, Bruised (Simon & Schuster, 2021). (all photos courtesy of Tanya Boteju) See more

Pflag Canada would like to acknowledge the loss of someone very special to our community. Laurie Jones, a Pflag pioneer passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. He lived with Alzheimer’s for six years. Together with his wife Mary they ran Pflag Brampton for numerous years. He also served as the treasurer for Pflag Canada. As an advocate and passionate individual, Laurie appeared in numerous media features including many articles, an NFB/ONF Mediatheque film, and CBC’s Man Alive. He is remembered as a kind person who helped so many people along with their journey of acceptance and will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.

For decades, Nik Redman felt that as a Black transgender man, he had to leave a part of himself behind depending on what room he was in. But the long-time Toronto activist says the recent wave of protests give him hope that things are beginning to change. https://www.cbc.ca//all-black-lives-matter-black-lgbtq-voi
