COVID-19 affects us all. Be kind, be calm, be safe. We have continued to suspend all in-person activities in compliance of the BC provincial mandate. Future decisions will be made following guidelines from the Provincial Health Officer. We continue to follow what our club is doing nationally, as well as provincial closures and guidelines. We will decide about the feasibility of future trips as more information becomes available. We recognize many of our members will continue ...to enjoy the outdoors in their own bubbles. We would like to bring attention to the significance of Search And Rescue calls in a pandemic. SAR volunteers are following health protocols that impact search responses. This past summer, there was a record number of SAR related events in BC. The high level of calls can put a strain on their members, with the added challenge of protecting themselves from COVID-19. Consideration of risk should always be at the forefront and there are some basic tips and planning skills available on the AdventureSmart Program website. https://www.bcsara.com/adventuresmart/ We’d like to share mountain travel recommendations we have seen from other groups related to risk management during the pandemic: Respect closed areas Make conservative decisions regarding terrain selection. Keep the difficulty level low and stay well within your abilities. Keep your mountain activity to your local community. Avoid travel to smaller communities and towns even if you are not intending to make a stop. Ensure that physical distancing measures are still taken. Do not carpool with people outside your ‘bubble’. Consider early return times as a buffer for unexpected incidents. Be prepared to spend the night out in an emergency. Leave a trip plan.
