It's incredibly important to know what to do during a wildfire emergency. Having an emergency plan will reduce anxiety, help you focus, and keep you safe. Get started by downloading the PreparedBC fill-in-the-blanks plan: http://ow.ly/ukVt30oUULG

The BC Wildfire Service is responding to a new wildfire across the Fraser River from the community of Lytton. The fire, currently estimated at 2 hectares in si...ze, is visible from Lytton, Highway 1 (the Trans Canada Highway), and from nearby communities. Planned ignitions are being utilized to remove unburned fuel between the fire and established control lines. No structures are threatened at this time.

BC Wildfire Service crews have responded to a grassfire reported yesterday afternoon that is located approximately 12 kilometres southeast of Revelstoke. Crews ...responded immediately along with the support of the local fire department to ensure that any nearby structures were not threatened. As the only available fuel was the top grass layer, the majority of the fire self-extinguished last night, and the final fire perimeter is 25 hectares in size. The fire is now classified as "under control" and a three-person BC Wildfire Service crew is on site today mopping up and patrolling the fire for any smouldering areas. The fire is suspected to be human-caused and both the RCMP and Compliance and Enforcement have been engaged to investigate. This serves as a great reminder to use caution when lighting any fire!

S-100 As a reminder forestry is requiring the original 2 day S-100 course certificate and this years refresher. This is a new requirement. ... Last year they only required proof of the refresher course. Their concern is people just taking the refresher. And not having ever taken the two day course. This might be hard for many people as the S-100 system never required the instructors to keep a record of successful students. And the students were never required to maintain a record of their original 2 day course. I took my first S-100 with a volunteer fire dept 28 years ago and with another volunteer dept 15 years ago. Neither had records of This so I just took the two day course to have the certificate. Please share any methods you have been successful with in acquiring past document. Most courses have to be redone after a few years, so redoing the full 2 day course although expensive and time consuming is just one of those things. I’ve never been opposed to redoing a safety course. Especially one you aren’t employed full time in. I would be the first to sign a petition to have a one day course. Focus on the safety issues. As medics we are not going to be doing fire suppression. So the second day of the S-100 using fire hose, nozzles, hand tools digging line and running pumps, is not within the scope of the medic team. (Medic - Driver) Maybe the solution is a S-50 Safety course, one day. Sufficient to teach the medic crew, how to ensure their safety and play a role in the overall safety of the crew they are working with. This year the Phoenix crews will be supplied with t and long sleeve cotton shirts, hi vis flame resistive vests and ball caps with Phoenix Logos and Phoenix identification. If you would like to join the team. Send your tickets and resume to [email protected]. Include that S-100 Origional 2 day certificate ! See you out there this summer. Be safe.
