Despite the frigid temperatures the dedicated staff at Calgary Wildlife keep going! All the animals still need daily food, water, and medical treatments so we ...turn up in our layers upon layers of clothing to make sure everyone is safe and protected from the cold. If you are interested in helping during these Alberta winters, we are always looking for reliable heaters that we can use in our outbuildings to keep those patients that live outside of the main clinic safe and warm. Other things that can help during cold snaps are extra blankets, dry straw bales, wood shavings, and tools for breaking ice for open water sources! See more

25 weeks into her pregnancy and Yewande is doing well! Climbing nice and high is always a good gorilla mom-to-be relaxation strategy. #GorillaBabyYYC

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle! Okay, so Gorilla's are actually from the Ape family. But congratulations Yewande! 10 years ago, a young Yewande was the inspiration behind "The Mother's Return"

Got out to the zoo Friday to get some fun shots. At least Ava wanted to play along! Bactrian camel. Critically endangered in the wild. And yet can tolerate temperatures of plus 40 to minus 40.

Patient of the week! The North American beaver kit we have in care is growing up quickly! He will still be in care for several months as the typical release age... for rehabilitated beavers is 2-3 years. The wound on his tail has healed really well and we’re thrilled with his progress so far. If you would like to donate to the beaver’s care, please visit our website. Every cent helps and as a charitable organization we rely on donations to provide care to the nearly 2000 wild animals we admit each year. Thank you for your support! http://www.aiwc.ca/support-us/

Great news! On August 5, 2016, a new lodge at the Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary - WCHS in Ghana was handed over to the community. After months of constructi...on, the Talawona Tourist Lodge is now ready to begin accepting its first guests! Watch for a new series of paintings, the Faces Of AIWC. The first painting in the series is currently being painted of this little fellow. Only a few months old here, he was orphaned in the wild and required hand rearing by the dedicated people of the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation. 20% of print sales will be donated to their conservation efforts of rescuing and rehabilitating affected wildlife.
