You never know what you are going to find when you start demolishing an old building. No matter what surprises come up, we are equipped to handle them. Here's an example: The original scope of the KPU project was to tear down the exterior walls of the courtyard so that that space could be closed in and become usable interior campus space.... However, once we began the project we discovered mould along the interior and exterior walls. We brought in a testing company and the scope of the project expanded to include the remediation of the mould and the demolition of the exterior walls. Results: Provide space for an additional 300 student spaces over the course of an academic term. Addressed deferred maintenance and aging infrastructure of a building that was 27 years old. Built what is now considered one of the most innovative learning spaces in the province. https://www.phoenixenterprisesltd.com/kpu-courtyard Interested in Mould Remediation? Each project presents a unique challenge, and a different set of obstacles. KPU was beginning a $22 Million renovation with a major infrastructure upgrade to their Spruce Building. We were contracted by Yellowridge Construction to remove the exterior walls of the courtyard to facilitate the construction of usable interior building space. Obstacle:... We were not allowed to damage any trees in the courtyard until they had been removed by the appropriate professionals. Solution: We used an aerial platform known as an articulating boom lift with a basket to move ourselves strategically around the trees. Since 2014, we have been working on various projects with SFU at their Burnaby campus. The scope of work included asbestos abatement, mould remediation and select interior demolition. We had to develop an integrated approach to completing the project. Obstacles The residences were often occupied by students who were living in the space which made it difficult to coordinate work times ... Work taking place in classrooms could not be conducted during school hours Solutions At SFU we often started work on units that were vacant and if not we would arrange a time with the residence that was safe to conduct the work We would also schedule work for outside of regular working hours so that professors and students were not exposed to any hazardous materials or impacted by levels of higher noise Find out more about the results of this project: https://www.phoenixenterprisesltd.com/sfu-campus

In 1947 Marvel created a Villain named The Asbestos Lady. The Asbestos Lady was a gifted scientist who designed a flameproof costume from asbestos and wielded a flame-thrower and guns that fired asbestos-lined bullets. At the time Asbestos was widely used and seen as Canadian Gold. She appeared in: Captain American #63 Human Torch #27... Who better to fight the Human Torch than The Asbestos Lady who was fire retardant. In 1990, Asbestos was no longer used as a building material, and around this time Marvel reports that in the years that followed she had contracted cancer due to her constant exposure to asbestos. Asbestos has always been a Villain in our society. Sadly, we became aware years later and discontinued use in buildings in the 1990’s. Did you know... Asbestos was once so popular that it was used as artificial snow in the film industry. The most famous use of asbestos snow during a movie was in The Wizard of Oz in 1939. It was used during the scene where snow falls on Dorothy and her friends, awakening them from a spell cast by the Wicked Witch of the West.... https://www.phoenixenterprisesltd.com//worrying-about-a-wh
