The Day of Mourning is a day to honour those workers who have sacrificed their life for their livelihood, to acknowledge the suffering experienced by the families, friends and communities who must continue without them. And today (like every year), we'd like to renew our commitment to prevent worker injuries and deaths by continuously improving our health & safety practices and keeping on educating our people.

The clock is winding down but it's not too late, you have until 8 pm tonight to get to your poll and vote in the provincial election - if you haven't already. Despite a busy day at work and the challenges that come with parking our vehicles we've done our part so hopefully you've done (will do) yours too! #votingmatters #vote2020

While certain risks can be foreseen and controlled, seismic events happen on their own timeline, and with varying degrees of magnitude. Every year on the third Thursday of October, we come together to bring awareness to this issue and ensure that we’re prepared in the case of an earthquake and for us that means acknowledging the hazards in our offices, on the roadways and job sites. So today, join us as we all do our part to familiarize ourselves with our surroundings, and become aware of how we can reduce the risks associated with earthquakes. When it comes to safety, the more prepared we are means less harm to people and property. #shakeoutday #2020 Visit www.shakeoutbc.ca to find and download useful resources.

Halloween is finally here! If you’re heading out this year, it’ll require some extra care to ensure the safety of you and those around you. Here are a few tips to safely enjoy your night. - If you’re dressing up, try to incorporate a mask into your costume. - If you’re handing out candy, wear a mask and get creative with the candy distribution to keep a safe distance from the trick or treaters. - And if you’re heading out with the kids, choose costumes that are bright and ref...lective so that we can see you our trucks have bright lights, but in the dark it can be challenging to see you from a distance. As for the drivers, please keep it slow tonight and expect the unexpected. Make sure your headlights are bright, and remember that trick or treaters have the right of way at marked and unmarked crosswalks. No matter how you choose to celebrate this years ‘different’ Halloween, have fun and be safe!

Each October, since 2007, we host a flu shot clinic right here at our office. Making it simple and accessible for those employees who choose to get their annual flu shot, is just another way that Phoenix shows they care about their staff and the overall wellness of the workplace.

Like so many other holidays since the beginning of the pandemic, your Thanksgiving will probably be celebrated differently this year, but one thing should remain, and it’s for all of us to continue to practice gratitude regardless of our stress level and how hard it may be to feel thankful right now. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We are thankful for your continued support and for being a part of our journey this year.

This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). This has been a highly discussed topic among construction and trucking industry - especially this year as we’re facing unfamiliar challenges. Two of the most important things that we can do to support good mental health in our companies are to be open about mental health and to be civil in how we deal with others. Whether it's online, on jobsites, on the phone or at the office, we must remember that everyone is having a difficult time at the moment and that a little kindness and not passing judgement will go a long way. Phoenix is committed to keep supporting drivers, crane operators and office staff in any way they need us to so that we all maintain a healthy mental well-being.

October 1 1990, I quit my job as an owner operator with Diamond Delivery and went out on my own! I had a little office in the basement of our townhouse on Falcon Drive Coquitlam. It didn’t take long before crane work started pouring in. Even Though BC was in a recession I was overwhelmed with work and had to hire owner operators to help out. My neighbors approached me letting me know their displeasure with crane trucks blocking their areas from time to time ... February 1 1991 we opened to a 750 sq. office on 942 Sherwood Avenue Coquitlam and BCD Holdings Ltd. left Falcon Drive to become Phoenix Truck & Crane Service Today we have 11 industrial waterfront acres with 37,000 sq. Ft. of office and warehousing I hired Dave Reeves to operate my Crane truck and I was all alone in an office dispatching other O/Os, answering the phones, doing the billing, the sales and wondering what did I get myself into. The first year in business we grew to 15 trucks, today we are a group of companies with approximately 200 people and I’m transitioning myself out to new management and a new management style to fit today’s environment. It’s been a good ride over the 30 years with many ups the downs. I recently found my original crane truck in 100 Mile House and have reunited her with the rest of our trucks. She too has served her time and it’s time for her to look over the company she helped build and let the new cranes continue on with her legacy Bill Dick- Owner Phoenix Truck & Crane
