Photo Arts Club 17.11.2020

Hello everyone! The Ontarionn just posted an article about our current situation involving the CSA. If you missed the earlier post we had written on our blog (www.photoartsclub.ca/blog), the jist of it is that in January we were told that the 2nd floor renovations in the UC would not affect us, and while there were plans down the line to "renovate and repurpose" the PAC space, we were not told what that would entail, or when it would happen. Six months later we received an e...mail from the CSA President telling us we had 2 weeks to move our things so renovations could begin. It's been a very frustrating experience, and we are working towards trying to find a solution that would see PAC be able to continue to operate. Last Thursday we had a 3 hour meeting late into the night with Mike Calvert (UC Manager of Operations) and CSA President Chelsea Mulvale who both assured us that this was an honest mistake and that there was no malice involved. We spent the time discussing the situation at hand, and how we could alter the PAC space such that half of it could be allocated to another organization. We are currently awaiting a response to our most recent email to them addressing a few additional issues with regards to losing the office space (as it doubles as a preparation and waiting area for studio photography), and how that could be remedied should the renovations continue. We have received numerous offers of support from various community members and community organizations, as well as UofG students, staff, and alumni. We are so thankful to all who have taken an interest in this issue! Thank you everyone <3

**IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ! CSA IS TAKING HALF OF PAC'S SPACE!!** Hello Folks, We at the Photo Arts Club have some news to report with regards to the space at the club. The CSA has decided to split the PAC space with the GQE which, with their current space reallocation proposal, would effectively disband the Photo Arts Club that has been in existence for over 50 years and is an integral part of not only the history of the University, but has become a necessity to members who ...want to learn and grow as artists - especially in this time and age where digital and film equally co exist. At this time, film is making a LARGE comeback and nearly pulling even with digital. Be that as it may the CSA has gone behind our backs without notifying us that they will begin construction on July 21st with or without our involvement. They admit that in oversight they forgot to contact us with regards to this renovation - but are poised to begin construction regardless. We at PAC find it very hard to believe that the ENTIRE CSA executive unwittingly failed to notify any PAC executives at the Club. Also, their current proposals for the club reconstruction were made without consulting our needs assessment as to how they should be done in order to allow our club to continue to function. It is abundantly clear that they have no idea how a studio and darkroom should be structured to function properly. We are are asking for your support in any way that you can. This is a travesty that shouldn't be allowed to occur as all members and executives are excellent photographers and deserve to have to a place to express their art. The CSA has no idea what they are doing and no clue as to the kind of connections and networking they are losing. Thank you for your attention, Brian Hart & the PAC Executives
