As I continue to search for new opportunities to shoot and find more impressive, breathtaking moments to capture, these instances surely top the list. I have been regularly tuning into solar forecasts to verify the probability that northern lights will appear, specifically in Lumsden, of which I reside. The truth being: yes, northern lights do appear in the area! roughly surfacing two or three days per month. However, this particular night was very special. The aurora did appear, beginning at 10:30, peaking at 12:55, and lasting till about 4 or 5 in the morning. The lights lit up the entire sky and danced across the horizon in a very vivid manner, much unlike any scene I have ever witnessed. The most beautiful moments were watching the solar winds collide into the atmosphere, which (in my best description), seemed most similar to waves crashing across the beach except large circular flares above the northern lights flowing through the entire sky. Although the air was chilling, visualizing the uniqueness of each streak forming and breaking into motion was incredible. There truly are no words for this phenomenon that I strive to capture better with each opportunity. While Saskatchewan can be fairly boring at times, nothing quite prevails as much as the Land of the Living Skies, endless horizons, and lights like fire.
