With all the shutdowns, have you been spending more sitting in front of a computer? It's no secret today that sitting hunched over a computer, typing furiously, and staring at screens all day can wreak havoc on the body. When our job calls for us to sit at a desk for hours on end, we tend to round our shoulders, slouch forward and protrude our neck. Our muscles begin to really tighten up and those repetitive motions we do in poor positions eventually lead to strain and injur...ies. On top of that, long periods of sitting can lead to other health risks including increased blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease. Sitting has been called the new smoking. The good news is that, along with doing some simple stretches, moving, and making ergonomic adjustments to your workstation, you can significantly reduce the discomfort most desk jockeys are experiencing daily. These small changes will translate to feeling better, improved productivity, more happiness, and job satisfaction. A physiotherapist can help identify your pains, help optimize the ergonomics of your workstation, and tailor a unique plan to help get you moving again. Book a complimentary virtual appointment with one of our physios today We are also hoping to hold a Zoom workshop. Please email us if you are interested. #Physioactive #Physiotherapy #DeskJockey #Ergonomics

One of the many technology tools we use at Physioactive to help with our clients. We combine hands-on therapy with technology to achieve optimal results. We successfully use this device to activate and balance the nervous system allowing repair. We combine it in our concussion rehabilitation, with neuromuscular challenges, post-motor vehicle trauma, and chronic pain. The vagus (not Vegas) nerve is an important component in balance our nervous system, especially our autonomic (automatic) functions needed for healing and repair. If you aren't getting the results you expect from your therapy or are a "slow healer" maybe addressing your nervous system can help. We have seen improvements in headaches, digestive problems and more.

What is a tendinopathy? . Many patients with pain referral along major tendons often receive the diagnosis of tendinitis. The -itis suffix usually refers to some degree of inflammation of the affected tendon. While previously thought to be the cause of most tendon-related pain, studies in recent years have demonstrated minimal evidence of inflammation in those with chronically painful tendons. Instead, the term tendinopathy is now coined to better describe any pain or ...reduced function of a tendon. . One important principle for tendinopathy rehab is load management. This term gets tossed around loosely but what does it actually refer to? Essentially, to put it simply, we want to ‘manage the overall load on the tendon’. The goal is to improve the tendon’s capacity to managing load while building greater resilience to pain! But what does this look like in practice? . 1 Load management begins with modifying exercises or specific movements to allow the body to desensitize. Essentially, we’re trying to calm things down before building them back up. Manual therapy and other therapeutic modalities may be highly useful for this purpose! . 2 Part of this process may involve modifying training loads by adjusting things such as volume and intensity. This usually involves monitoring these variables over time and adjusting them gradually depending on tolerance . 3 It is also important to consider internal variables as well. This includes adjusting other ‘loads’ such as sleep and various life stressors in order to better facilitate the body’s ideal healing response . 4 As things become more manageable, we work on building resiliency to specific exercises or loads that were previously painful to build a buffer of tolerance to exercise moving forward! . These are some of the things that our physiotherapists practice when rehabbing a bothersome tendon! . Stay tuned for future posts on rehab options for common tendinopathies encountered in clinic See more
