Did you know that in Canada, physiotherapy is a regulated profession and the name Physiotherapy or PT are protected terms? - In order to work as a physiothe...rapist you have to go through the necessary steps to be licensed. This includes successful completion of a University Degree that has an accredited Physiotherapy program. Physiotherapists have a special body of knowledge of the human body and injury prevention/management and are held to strict regulatory standards by their governing body. - Only registered physiotherapists are eligible to use the terms physiotherapist, physical therapist and the professional designation PT. In addition, some other health personnel/professionals have mistakenly used the initials "PT". The use of the licensure designation "PT" by licensed physical therapists is there to ensure public protection; these specific initials denote to the patient that the person is licensed by their province. It is important when seeking treatment to be confident in the background and training of your practitioner knowing that they are using evidence based treatment methods to help Nova Scotians achieve their goals and keep them active doing the things they love. - For more information about physiotherapy in Nova Scotia visit https://www.physiotherapyns.ca/ To find a local physiotherapist near you visit http://www.physiotherapyns.ca/find-a-physio - #NationalPhysioMonth2021 #KeepNSMoving #WeAreStrongerTogether #NovaScotiaPhysiotherapyAssociation #physiocanhelp #novascotia #physiotherapists #physiolife #injuryrecovery #RoadToRecovery #researchbased #evidencebased ------------------ Source: https://physiotherapy.ca/working-canada *Please note that the images above was taken Pre-Covid. Did you know that physiotherapists provide primary health care? This means that we diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions within our scope of practice,... manage patients with chronic disease, provide education in disease self-management, participate in health promotion and injury prevention initiatives, and much more. We also collaborate with other health care professionals to set and achieve identified treatment goals for patients. We have positive impacts on quality of life and care cost-effectiveness by: + Providing early assessment and intervention + Improving exercise tolerance and helping maintain or restore optimal function + Assisting in the prevention and treatment of pain + Promoting fitness, health, and wellness + Improving client satisfaction in care, including education and guidance on maintenance or improvement in overall function Physiotherapists keep Nova Scotians moving!! Read more about our role as primary health care providers here: https://physiotherapy.ca//posit/primary-health-care_en.pdf To find a local physiotherapist to help get you back to doing the things you love visit: http://www.physiotherapyns.ca/find-a-physio/advanced
Physiotherapists are direct-access practitioners, meaning patients can visit physiotherapists directly (self-referral) without waiting for a physician referral.... Physiotherapy self-referral benefits both patients and the health-care system! Patient benefits include: Better outcomes (e.g. pain) for the patient Increased likelihood that patients will achieve their treatment goals Self-referred patients miss less work Self-referred patients also use less prescription drugs and have fewer x-rays and require fewer visits to their physician Reduced volume of referrals to specialists Overall health-care costs for self-referred patients are lower You can also find physiotherapists in a variety of health care settings including private clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, community centres, in homes, universities, research groups, and community outreach teams. Now more than ever its important to support your local businesses and show you care about the community that you live in. Here are 4 tips in how you can suppor...t local safely. 1. Do your Research. Not every business is operating the same so check before you head out. 2. What options am I comfortable with - online ordering, curb side pick up or delivery, or in-store protocols like hand sanitizing at the door or wearing a mask. 3. Remember physical distancing. Remember to keep a 6ft distance between yourself, other customers or store staff where possible. Wear a mask in situations where its not possible. 4. Be Patient. This is new for all of us and there will be bumps along the road as we all adjust. Be sure to stop as you enter restaurants, stores, or services, and look for guidance on what each business requires from you in order to keep everyone safe! It may not be business as usual but were all in this together, so lets work together to #supportlocalsafely This video was supported by: Municipality of Colchester Town of Truro Millbrook First Nation Town of Stewiacke Village of Bible Hill Truro & Colchester Partnership for Economic Prosperity Downtown Truro Video by Steve Currie

You do not need a referral to see a physiotherapist in Nova Scotia. Most insurance plans no longer require referrals from your doctor. Currently the outbreak o...f Covid-19 has encouraged many insurance companies (that still require referrals) to waive the requirement for a referral. This also includes referrals for virtual sessions. This has been great news!! Its never been easier to see a physiotherapist in NS. Please visit http://www.physiotherapyns.ca for more information on physiotherapy. Please visit http://www.physiotherapyns.ca/find-a-physio/advanced to find a physiotherapist near you. #nationalphysiotherapymonth #keepnsmoving #novascotiaphysiotherapyassocation
