Today we are going to look back at one of our most popular lessons, and we are going to show you how you can create a really beautiful, moody melody using only 3 notes in the right hand! You'll even be able to play this if you're not a piano player!... If you're not playing music, but you want to be -- make sure you check out our free beginner course: https://pianote.com/getting-started From lisa: You'll notice in this one that I'm playing 4 notes, not 3. BUT the 4th note is just a repeat of the same G note I played at the top. So we are still only using 3 notes - we're just repeating one of them. I love how versatile this melody line is, and I would really encourage you to try it in different keys. A good key to move to is E minor, because there is only one sharp. So for Em, the chord progression would be Em - C - D - Bm, and the notes to play in the right hand would be F#-G-D. Try it out! What I love about this is how simple it is, yet it creates such a beautiful mood and feeling. Music doesn't have to be super complicated or advanced for us to be able to express ourselves. So give it a go!

I just love Elton John, and especially "Your Song". The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin, Elton's long-time collaborator. He said he wrote the words while sitting at the kitchen table of Elton's mother's apartment and later called the lyrics 'naive and childish'.... I think they're beautiful.

If there’s one exercise that I think is best for developing finger control, speed, and dexterity it has to be Hanon. These exercises are named after their creator, Charles-Louis Hanon and were published in 1873. There is criticism that the exercises are not musical enough, but I think there is still a lot of value in them. The exercise we’ll be focusing on today is the very first one. It’s a simple pattern, but it’s one we can vary to help develop control, hand independence..., rhythm, and dynamics. Even though "Don't Let Me Down" by The Chainsmokers is an EDM song, I still think it sounds great with just the Piano part. The chords are easy! I'm only using E-B-F#-G#m to play the song in its original key. I hope you enjoy it!
