Here's an outdoor class at High Park Forest School in 1918. It was one of two "forest schools" in Toronto, started because fresh air was believed to promote goo...d health and reduce risk of tuberculosis. The school term ran from May to October. Here's how the setting was described in The Globe and Mail (July 7, 1922): "the roof is the vivid blue of Heaven, glimpsed through the lacy foliage of birch and pine, and on three sides stretch glorious vistas of the forest primeval, where the black squirrel disports himself and the fat groundhog sits at his doorstep preening his fur coat." #CultureinQuarantineMW The Getty Museum had a great idea: pick a painting from their collection and re-create it at home, using whatever comes to hand. Here's ...our version: the painting on the left, which is in the PMV collection, was painted circa 1919 by Dorothy Wyndham Eddis (later Glen) (1885-1977), an Australian-Canadian artist and Pickering resident. Our Conservator Ellen has nailed it! If you would like to re-create a piece of PMV art, you can access the collection at https://pickering.pastperfectonline.com/ and post your version here! #stayhomemakememories See more
