Playing around with some back walkovers again after a bit of a break! I went back quite a few steps but i feel even more motivated to get this one nailed down because we are going to be getting ladder barrels at the studio!!! Climb a tree on the ladder barrel has a very resembling finish to a back walkover so i can't even begin to tell you how stoked I am! Centering represents the act of drawing your own mental and physical focus during each exercise to the core, or center (often called the ‘powerhouse’). The core is often thought of as just the abs, and that’s only PART true! The core includes not only the abdominal muscles, also the diaphragm, the pelvic floor and the muscles that run along the spine (erector spinae, multifidus and psoas). Why is a strong core important?... The core musculature is the bridge between the upper torso and the legs. It is the source of stability during daily activities and during exercise. It protects the internal organs, and stabilizes the spine. Breathing is the first act of life, and the last. Our very life depends on it. In pilates there is an instructional emphasis on the inhalations and exhalations. Pilates emphasizes that we should all take full, deep breaths. Try this!... Place your hands on the sides of your ribcage, thumbs towards your spine, and fingers towards your naval. Take a great big inhale and really breathe into your hands, not just out to the sides, expand your ribs back into your thumbs, forwards into your fingers, and out into your palms. See how expansive you can really get. And then let it ALL out. FEATURE FRIDAY! Todays feature is Our first ever "client"!!! Katyas mum!... Marisa is a grandma, mum of 3, has had multiple hip surgeries, including a full hip replacement (WOW!) And loves crafting, being active, exploring, and, of course, Pilates! She first started doing pilates about 4 years ago as a way to keep active despite the bad arthritis in her hip (pre-replacement). After getting her hip replaced and going through physiotherapy she started up Pilates again with Katya as a way to continue to rehabilitate her hip and never stopped coming! Pilates is Marisas way of keeping a balanced and healthy mind and body. "Katyas attention to detail keeps me motivated on my journey back from hip replacement, her encouragement and enthusiasm is infectious and I really feel well looked after and that she is right there with me on my journey. How many times should you do pilates? Ok first off, high five you for asking the question! Because that means you are thinking about how you can make the best out of your body and that is AWESOME!!! Second, just like every answer to every great question.. well it depends. Pilates is a great foundation so that you dont injure yourself in other sports and activities, so if youre a busy beaver or someone just getting into pilates then 3x a week is fantastic. Now, if you cant... get into the studio 3x each week then dont worry! Practicing mat pilates at home is a fantastic way to add in an extra workout whether it be 15 minutes or an hour. The health guidelines say for someone over the age of 18 that you should be getting AT LEAST 150 MINUTES of moderate to vigorous exercise PER WEEK! So that could be 3 classes, or 2 classes and 40 minutes of mat work at home for example.. and that is the minimum! So for a challenge, count your activity time! Do you meet or exceed the guidelines set? If you havent followed me for a while then you wouldnt know that Ive been working on my extensions and this high bridge is actually really great one for me! You also wouldnt know that I feel most self-conscious when not only in front of a camera, but in a crop top! So although this may seem small to some, it means the world to another. Playing and confidence. To me being able to play and explore and push my body is what builds confidence. The confidence in my body to be able to do more without fear of injury, the confidence to try new and exciting things without the fear of "looking stupid" or "failing". To be able to move freely and express yourself is confidence. It doesnt have to look pretty or be "Grammable". Its just got to be your true awesome raw self moving and exploring and playi...ng with the awesome body that you were given. There will be only 2 people maximum! So great news for you guys because that means so much more attention to your body and needs! New times! Each spread put to make sure that you dont have any cross over! Yay safety! No lobby and bathroom access except in emergencies! That way theres no extra cleaning! Its all be streamlined New moves and sequences made up during this break just for you! get ready to shake some things up!!! Small rant below I, a fitness coach and athlete, have been getting DMd shade for showing a bit more stomach recently for 2 reasons. 1. I dont have abs so what kind of unsuccessful teacher am I?... 2. Im not body positive or inclusive to people because Im to skinny and intimidating. What the actual F*ck!? Being a "Skinny" girl (I HATE being called that btw) I often get criticized for being on a fitness program because I "shouldnt want to lose more weight", "im to skinny", "Im too obsessed with perfection", "Im fine the way I am" Just so you know. I want to get to the point of having abs I can see and low key show off one day because I WANT THAT. It has nothing to do with anyone else and yes i know I have a long way to go still! Fitness programs are there to make you fit....... They are never, or should never, be about looking "perfect" because there is no such thing as perfect, or about continuing to lose weight to an unhealthy level. I do want to quickly talk about how fat acceptance has shifted into skinny shaming and just plain ignorance to what fitness and the word DIET actually means. A "skinny" girl going on a diet may mean she is on a high protein or higher calorie diet to put ON weight. So why judge her for that? While praise someone for being "body positive" because she has curves. Please just accept people and applaud those who are doing things to better their health and only question if youre seriously concerned for a persons well being. P.S Dont worry, I am not affected by the shade. Just upset that people are so full of negativity and ignorance they they think I should stop bettering myself... well guess what!? Its actually leg day today So its time for me to hop to it!

Today has been a day with a lot of exciting planning and writing,but that also means a lot of sitting. So I decided to take a movement break to work on my extensions (which a lot of you know is not the easiest thing for my body.. Especially after a day of sitting!) And to be honest this video was more for me to see my improvements and what needs more work. But thinking back to @pilatesfestnorth specifically when @james_crader was talking about pilates not having to be ...pretty, and to just move beyond that comfort zone, I felt inspired to share my practice. This practice is not pretty in my opinion and thats okay! Because thats what makes it a practice. A lot of this practice was me humming and singing along to the music playing around with what felt good and what I needed more of. There wasnt much of a plan. It was just movement. Be proud of your movement and own it no matter what it may look like. If it makes you feel great then do it. Share it. Be proud that you got up and moved. Because in this world you have 2 choices : sit out or move. And I hope you move Thank you @james_crader @pilatesfestnorth @profitablepilates for being such awesome inspirations in my practice

Happy "hump day" everyone! British columbia is now shifting into phase 2 of reopening and that is fantastic, I do hope that you all are staying safe and make sure to take it seriously, not as just a "back to normal" type thing! ... This has got me so excited because that means I am that much closer to being able to open up the studio! However with all exciting things comes that little nagging doubtful voice in the back of my mind.... Well that means its time to move and groove! Im so excited to say that the next 2 weeks will be a super awesome shift for me and my content! There has been lots of planning going on to be able to bring out 1 ongoing project and one other project that is near and dear to my heart! I also will be continuing videos throughout my opening! So if you are one of the careful people who need to look out for your health still, or someone who cant get to the studio, or maybe you can and want to add in an extra workout or 2, well you will continue to be getting youtube videos and lots of home content!

"Sparkling" already! I love getting to shake up my routine and workout at different times of day maybe doing cardio early and a workout later, workout early and cardio later, maybe back to back like Im doing today! Its all so good and so much fun! ... Change up your workout routines and the times you do them! You may find out something new and awesome! Today I found out that i much prefer doing my cardio first and then my workout and then stretch, rather than workout, cardio, stretch. I definitely dont feel motivated to stretch at all now! I just want to have a nice shower! P.s wearing my @sweatybetty gear today! Although you cant see them, these are my union jack pants and I LOVE them! So comfy and fit my long legs PERFECTLY! In these times I find myself feeling the same way as when I stare into the ocean. What will I find if I venture into it? Will it be to much for me?... Will it be dangerous? Should I stay on the shore? I cant help but laugh at myself when I think this way now. Its ok to laugh at yourself. However never aim doubt at yourself. BE BOLD. Go the distance and embark into the unknown, dont leave a single part of yourself safely on the shore. Have the nerve to dive into the future. Note. This is not an analogy to go outside. We all need to do our part in flattering the curve and protecting our neighbors and communities. However do not be afraid of the changes coming. Embrace them with open arms and dive into our new normal with a brave and positive attitude. But always be ok with laughing at yourself because lets face it. We are all tripping over our own feet nowadays
