Here’s something you may not know about me that might surprise you... . I was terrified to take my first Pilates class . Pilates has always intimidated me; the people doing it and instructing it looked so graceful and perfect. I didn’t identify with them.... . If you know me personally (and watch my awesome dance videos) you’ll know that I have ZERO rhythm and Coordination doesn’t come naturally to me . So doing something like Pilates was definitely outside of my comfort zone. . After my first session, I was hooked. Yes, it was hard. Yes, I was sore for days. But I loved it! (And yes I was already exercising regularly and have a lot of privileges, so it was easy for me to enjoy right away). . I could end the story here and tell you to try our classes because they will change your life, but I’d be missing a big chunk of the story. . If I’m being honest, I originally fell in love with Pilates bc I wanted to change my body. I wanted to look slender, toned and move with more grace. I wanted to be in complete control of my body. . But if you’ve been following me for a while, you know how that journey ends. . And eventually, I had to find Pilates not as another form of control, but as a tool to help me heal emotionally and physically from a disordered lifestyle. . But it wasn’t until I started healing that I truly understood why people are intimidated by Pilates. . Pilates appears to be a pretty exclusive club; you have to be slim, gracious and perfect (and not to mention white, cis-gendered, female and able-bodied). . But Pilates is such a powerful form of exercise and it’s a shame its been defined only this way. . But that has to change. . @pilatesondemand_ca We know Pilates does so much for the body, mind and soul. And we want everyone to be able to not only take part but feel welcomed and like they can be part of the club. . Pilates IS for everyone. Everyone is deserving to live in a strong body.
