Thank you Jill Wilson for sharing "our" story. I've seen a lot of feedback regarding this article, some good, some bad, and unfortunately some just outright rud...e and racist.. . Anyways, haters gonna hate. Which leads me to this. My goal in doing what I do(Bisita) and what I've done (PimpMyRice Inc)has been to proudly share a culture that I hold very dear to me in a way that I know and that's through food. "Our" food has never been popularized as much as it has been since recent years. From the masters in the culinary world to right here in Winnipeg, we now see Filipino food more and more. More people are sharing their particular styles of the cuisine, I myself am old school and choose to do pinoy food that way. Like the good homey Allan Pineda, and his squad with their takes on the somewhat "new" found cuisine. The list is long on the talents that Winnipeg has, and the mom and pop shops that dared to bring Filipino food to the masses cannot be dismissed. We may not have dim sum or sushi but our dishes truly are the "OG" of fusion cuisine(Norman Pastorin), but what I truly hope will happen is that we can get more support from our kababayans(our own) with numbers like ours it's shocking how little is actually known about "our" food. Lumpia and Pancit are cool, but TRUST there is so much more and if "our" food never hits the grand stage of the culinary world I will never grow tired of hearing that "our" food is the best kept secret around. #mabuhay See more
