Please reach out to our Kapwatid! Supporting that Pinay PhD life! Kumusta! I'm hoping you can help. I'm conducting research for my dissertation, which is a study on the emotional effects of discrimination in Filipino American women. There are not enough studies focusing on and advocating for Filipino American women. Your participation will help educate Filipino American women, the Filipinx American community, and those who provide support services to the community. By succe...ssfully completing the survey, you will have a chance to win a $20 Amazon gift card. To participate in this study, you must be a Filipino American woman, age 18 years old or older, and are able to read, write, understand, and speak English. If you would also please share this with other Filipino American women and the community, I would greatly appreciate it! I have attached a copy of the flier as well which includes a QR code for convenience. To take the survey, please click the link below to go to the survey website (or copy and paste the link into your Internet Browser). It is best to take this survey using a laptop or tablet device. Your participation in the survey is voluntary and all your responses will be kept confidential. PPII Reflections, One Year Later Julia Baladad (Program Assistant) Coming to university, I had not expected to reunite with my Filipino culture and community in such a new but stronger way. The lessons from Pinay Power II have guided my journey since, and everyday I try to live out the teachings of kapwa, of decolonization, and of liberation. I experienced so much strength, love, and laughter during this time. A piece of my heart is dedicated to PPII, and I still witness how... it shapes my life and approach to life everyday. One of the best things to come out of this conference was being able to take a class with PPII Plenary Panelist Dr. Maria Hwang! What a blessing, a privilege, and an experience to have taken a class from the first Filipina professor at McGill University. Ate Maria represents the strength and resilience of Filipinas, along with everyone from the conference. Salamat my kapwatids! I’m thankful for this one-year reminder, and I am excited to continue witnessing each one of our journeys! #pinaypower * * * Want to share your story? PPII Reflections, One Year Later France Clare Stohner As a local Montrealer having attended predominantly French educational establishments, I’ve felt the erasure and lack of Filipina representation my whole life. I was humbled and couldn’t contain the feelings of joy and privilege of gathering with so many Filipinas from all over the world and all walks of life, right in my hometown. I had been looking for you all for a long time. ... At the time, little did I know I had life growing inside me. I’m so happy that Kalayaan shared in the energy of so many fierce and powerful women. I learned how deeply important it is to nurture Filipina sisterhood, as we showed each other our wounds but also shared profound laughter. It’s been beautiful watching so many connections made that weekend blossom into friendships and materialize into collective projects. The teachings shared by the Mothers during PPII have found deeper meaning for me, absolutely as a new parent, but also in highlighting the importance of practicing revolutionary Mothering towards ourselves, our community, and in these current unprecedented times, our world. I will never forget the space we held for each other. * * * Want to share your story? We invite PPII participants to share their PPII reflections one year later.
