While we've done our best to respond to questions, inquiries and concerns about the lodge, it's been a tough couple of weeks. After a bit of time to process, here is a break down for those who are curious: On March 3rd, in the early evening, a fire broke out in the furnace room of the main lodge at Pine Falls Lodge and Resorts. When the fire was discovered, Fred Dunham did everything he could think of to prevent the spread, including turning off the propane supply to the r...est of the property and powering through 9 fire extinguishers, but the fire was too big and too powerful. Meanwhile, Kaynan, 15 years old, ensured the animals were safe and clear from the danger. Not shortly after, the fire burned so hot on the east side of the building, that Cabin 3, better known as Stormhold, caught fire as well. Fred, Kayn and a local OPP officer who arrived on scene did everything they could to extinguish the fire in cabin 3. Believing that the fire in cabin 3 was out, and once paramedics had arrived and cleared Fred and Kayn's minor burns, they were taken home by Sandra, waitress at the lodge and dear friend to the family. Unfortunately, as the lodge stands in an 'unorganized township' there is no fire department who would respond. Unless the fire threatened the surrounding forest, MNR would not respond either. There were fire pumps on site - but they were in the lodge too close to the fire to reach, and useless with frozen lakes. The power went out during the fire as the power supply from the waterwheel routes through the main lodge. There was nothing more to be done but watch the lodge burn. Despite their best efforts, Fred and Kayn returned in the morning to find cabin 3 demolished as well. They believe the fire continued in the insulation of the exterior wall throughout the night. The good news? Fred, Kayn, Diesel the dog, and Frenchy and Dougie the cats escaped with only minor injuries. The bad news? We have lost a home, a business and a landmark that stands out in the hearts (and Harts) of so many. The remaining cabins on the property still stand, however as a result of the shut down of the propane (and subsequently heat) and our limited access to the property while investigations took place, many water lines have burst and are now in need of repair. It will be a while before repairs are made and even longer before a final decision is made in regards to the property. In the meantime, here is an album of the best and worst of our lodge photos...for the curious, for those who need to see to believe and for those who have been asking questions. For anyone who would like to help Fred and Kayn out, or send their thoughts and wishes along, you can do so here: https://www.indiegogo.com//pine-falls-lodge-relief-fund-fo Thank you to everyone who was so supportive during the aftermath. It's amazing to see your true friends in a crisis!
For those who have forgotten Our lodge , our home , and all we had burned down on March 3rd. Yet someone came and looked at our burned out building and decided to steal our Kayak . I wonder how low can a human sink , What kind of cowardly people do we live with that they would steal from us at times like this .
Ok just to answer a few questions . We didn't answer our phone for four days because it was in the lodge and yes we had a pump to put out fires , but again it was in the Lodge. The phone is back on and we are trying to sort out what comes next. Thank you for all the support. Fred and Kaynan :)
It's MUD RUN day! See you on the trails!

Tonight is our 'Goodbye to the Lodge' at 7 pm It will be in the barn on Pine Falls property. There will be security on site monitoring the wreckage, but we ask again that everyone stays clear for safety and insurance reasons. Arrested Acoustic will be with us to help us reminisce our best memories. Anyone wishing to make any kind of donation to help Fred and Kayn out are more than welcome as well. Please message us privately if you would like a list of items that are immedia...tely needed. Just a reminder too, we do not have facilities for anyone on site, so please make sure you have a safe ride home, and, while we will have space heaters, dress warmly!

The restaurant sign left behind in the wreckage. We were finally allowed back on the property today to assess the damages ourselves. We did find some pine falls lodge mugs left in what we think was the kitchen... Though there's some bedroom mixed in there too...
https://www.indiegogo.com//pine-falls-lodge-relief-fund-fo There is a campaign started for anyone who can/would like to assist Fred and Kayn out financially, click the link. For anyone who wants to help in other ways, we are saying 'farewell to the lodge' this Friday night at 7 pm in the barn on the property. Arrested Acoustic ("the lodge band") will be there helping us reminisce. Come and share some memories and show your love for the lodge. ... Any donations (food, clothing, toiletries, furniture, etc) are welcome and greatly appreciated!
Thank you for the inundation of messages and well wishes. This Friday (March 6th) at 7pm we will be having a 'good bye to Pine Falls' event in the barn. Brandon and Danny (Arrested Acoustic) will be out with us playing tunes and we'll be reminiscing our favourite lodge moments. Anyone who wants to join us is welcome. (It doesn't need to be said but B.Y.O.anything) Anyone wishing to donate food, clothes, money or anything else to help Fred and Kayn is more than welcome!... (The barn is on the same property as the lodge, you can't miss it. We have lights and some space heaters for the space but we recommend warm clothes! We also respectfully ask that anyone coming out stay well clear of the rubble for safety)
In regards to the closure: unfortunately last night there was a fire and the main lodge burned down. There were no injuries, everyone (animals included) made it out alright. As of right now Pine Falls is closed indefinitely. We will post updates here in regards to cabin rentals and what is happening with the property as we are able. We are heartbroken right now at the loss of our home, business and this amazing landmark. We thank everyone for their prayers, well wishes and thoughts.
The lodge is closed indefinitely. Thank you.

Ever wonder how a water wheel works? (We do!) Our paddle wheel is how Pine Falls manages to use green energy for most of the year! While it does have hiccups from time to time it's also a great source of energy. Check out this little fact page for more info: http://www.forteachersforstudents.com.au//water-wh/facts/
