Often, male pattern hair loss still affects male to female transgender individuals. One solution for this is a hair transplant. Women tend to have a more feminine hairline which is lower, flatter and rounder than in men. Hair transplants can reshape the hairline while filling in the crown of the head where hair loss is often most prevalent.

Yes, hair can be harvested from other parts of the body and transplanted in the eyebrow area.

Like any other organ transplant, the hair must be a genetic match, otherwise your body will reject it. Theoretically, you could receive hair from a twin but it would stand to reason they are experiencing the same hair loss you are.

With Follicular Unit Transplant, the donor hair is taken from the back of the head where the follicles are resistant to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). While it is possible to take hair from other parts of the body, it is not recommended as that hair would have a different consistency, coarseness and properties. For example, it might be quite brittle and curly whereas the hair on your head might be strong and straight. The hair would retain its natural qualities.

Most patients compare the discomfort of a transplant to a visit to the dentist.

Rogaine is a topical treatment vs Propecia which is taken orally, so the side effects are quite different. Rogaines side effects include burning, stinging, or redness at the application site. These tend to be mild and temporary. Other side effects such as chest pain, dizziness, fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, swelling of hands or feet, and difficulty breathing are rare but do happen in some cases. A small percentage of Propecia users have noticed a decline in sexual desire and/or ability. Rarer still, some men have experienced more severe side effects like breast enlargement or tenderness, nipple discharge, a lump in the breast, pain in the testicles, or an inability to urinate. Anyone taking either drug and showing symptoms of these more severe side effects should immediately discontinue use of the drug and contact their doctor.

No, the full effects of a hair transplant can take up to a year to realize. Once the grafts have been transplanted, the new hair actually falls out due to the trauma of the procedure. The roots, however, remain and begin to grow new hair. Over the course of a year, the hair has a chance to grow and thicken.

There are other options that might work for you. Rogaine and Propecia are drugs that have been proven to help slow, stop or reverse hair loss. Laser therapy has also shown good results for some patients. Everyone is different so it is best to see a professional to determine what the best solution is for you.

Hair colour isnt really a factor in transplantation although salt and pepper hair often produces stunning results. The reason for this is because the mix of light and dark hair often blends into the scalp better than single toned hair. Basically, if your hair colour and your skin colour are similar, there is less contrast between the hair and the scalp which makes the hair look fuller. If you have very blond hair but very dark skin, the contrast will be more obvious making the results less effective. People with red hair usually have relatively light or pinkish skin which can work quite well together.

If your degree of hair loss is not really that severe and you have a good donor section, then yes, you might only need one transplant. However, if your hair loss is more severe and your donor area is less dense, you may need more. It will also depend on your desired look. You may feel as though the results of one transplant is enough to restore your hairline and give you the look you want.

This is a very difficult question to answer without seeing what an individuals hair looks like. It likely wont give you exact numbers but it might give you a sense of roughly how many grafts you might need.

The short answer is no. Male pattern hair thinning leading to hair loss is often caused by the conversion of the hormone testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Getting a transplant will not neutralize DHT. However, the hair that is transplanted is typically harvested from the back of the scalp. This hair is DHT resistant and is therefore permanent once transplanted into the recipient or affected area. The hair that is not resistant to this hormone imbalance will continue to thin and fall out.

Everyone has a different amount of hair on their heads so looks can be deceiving. Some people have very thick hair while not being very dense while others have a very dense head of hair while the strands are quite thin. And then there is everything in between!

I know this one is going to be tough, but can anyone guess this iconic hair? Heres a hint, although it looks like he has reverse mail pattern baldness (hair on the top but not on the sides) he actually pioneered this look in the 80s. I pity the fool who doesnt get this answer.

Heres a great example of how hair really frames the face. We often get asked whether hair transplants work better for people with lighter skin tones or darker. Although, no two cases are exactly alike, it sometimes helps to have skin and hair that are closer in colour so they blend into each other. For example brown skin with black hair often works well as does blond hair with fair skin. Of course, density plays a big part in the overall effect as well so we recommend booking a consultation before assuming anything. Enjoy the weekend!
