I had to post a way back throw back today. I can’t believe that my first hosted workshop was over 12 years ago, when I was in my early 20s! Even before I had a professional grade camera in my hands, I was helping photographers and models with posing, and building their portfolios. This memory is bitter sweet, as this workshop I did with my mentor Steve Locke, and he passed away recently. Steve opened up so many doors for me, and allowed me to be creative and see my own tr...ue potential as both a model, coordinator, and photographer. I have posted a lot on my Instagram how I have been experimenting with old vintage lenses and expanding my lens collection. The beautiful swirl created here , can’t be replicated with a newer high end canon lens. Although I love and treasure my high end glass that is worth a pretty penny, I absolutely love the time and work that it takes to operate these old lenses. You have to rely on your own technique and skills to manually focus and use these lenses to nail the images.... The last 12 months have really given me a run for my money. Literally. November 2019 - the father of my children walked away. He left me scrambling to sell my things to pay for a lawyer , pay all of the bills , and take care of our children while I was preparing for surgery. This weekend I shot two back to back weddings. One of the days was a 16 hour day with the drive included. I happily travel to most places in Ontario. I love seeing new places and shooting in different areas. I did not arrive home until 2am today, then I got 6 hours of sleep, and proceeded to get up to do last minute running around for tomorrow and Tuesday. The last part of my Sunday consisted of me rushing to pick up the boys and get them to bed. Tomorrow I wake up at 5am... and prepare to leave to Toronto for 2 whole days, where Ashley Farrel and I will be holding a large styled shoot over the coarse of two days. My business is thriving again, but I have some major catching up to do. My surgery, divorce, and covid threw my whole life out of whack, including my business and financials. Can anybody relate ? Instead of taking the bankruptcy route , I decided to keep fighting for my business and my future and keep slowly chipping away. My heart is always in my throat at the end of the day, thinking about what else I need to do to catch up. I havent given up yet !! Thank you to all of my clients , friends and family for standing by my side while I fight every day to get back on top ! Here is one of my most recent boudoir shoots that I shot for my client. Boudoirs are more than just sexual. They are about self love. I wanted to share something with you all that hit me on so many different levels when I read it. ... Someday. Is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you. Dont live for tomorrow. Dont live for the future. So many women have messaged me saying that one day. They will do boudoir photos. One day they will love them selves enough to do these photos. One day when they lose 10 pounds. One day when they have surgery. Ladies. Dont do what I did. I waited 33 years to start loving my self. 33 years to start making choices for me. I wish I would have done those boudoir shoots sooner. I wish I took more family photos of my kids. I wish I took my boys swimming. Played with them more. I wish I stopped being ashamed of my self earlier. This weekend I took my boys swimming. It dawned on me. I waited FIVE years of my little boys life to take him swimming. I waited until I had surgery and lost 130 pounds before I allowed my self to be an actual human being and enjoy life. I am now 33 and kicking my self in the ass for it. It was my ex husband who took them swimming. I sat on the side lines watching. Wishing I was as attractive as the other women in the water. Wishing that I could have a body worthy enough to be in a bathing suit. Nobody knew how much I love the water. How much I longed to be out there with them. I let my insecurities ruin our experiences. Do something for you self today. Dont make the mistakes that I did. Start loving your body today. You ARE worthy. Book your boudoir shoots. Book your family photos. And be happy to be who are are. It really breaks my heart to see all of my brides and other brides and what they are going through due to the pandemic. I just want to stress to you all, that you arent alone. So many of you have described the depression, anxiety and panic attacks that youre experiencing due to having to reschedule, or to keep your original date. To be completely transparent: I myself have been experiencing all the same. The massive loss of income this year has affected my business and ...my personal life severely. I begged and pleaded with Jayne to bring her horse to her wedding when she was planning her original wedding. Regretfully due to Covid, Jayne and Andrew had to postpone their date like thousands of other couples. We improvised and did a short elopement ceremony. Jayne brought her horse. We had all of her beautiful animals included on their day. ... The rain held out. It was meant to be!!
