Heidi, has had a very important role since 2019 at the breast center @cusm_muhc @muhcfoundation . The 7 year old Berneese Mountain dog has had a very special way to connect with patients on Friday’s. Pet therapy is known to help people cope with health and emotions, increase feelings of support and boost mood levels. Heidi has been the perfect friend anyone can have, offering a calm and comforting feel good vibe. Heidi was mainly hanging out in the waiting rooms (inside for... the patients and outside the clinic for the caregivers). I absolutely loved spending time talking with Sophie, Patient Support Coordinator at the Breast Clinic MUHC. I was inspired to see how all of our efforts have made all the difference for women that are newly diagnosed and lots of insight we were able to get on the program you have been supporting! Posted @withregram @pinkinthecitycanada After meeting Sophie, the community had to see firsthand the passionate and caring woman who is behind the success of the wellness program. As you know, when you love what you do, magic happens. Sophie was hired in 2019 thanks to the generosity of our donors. She is a certified coach with 15 years of experience working with cancer patients in various organizations, she is passionate about offering the Breast Clinic’s Wellness Program to every individual who walks through the clinic’s doors. Her ingenuity and humanity ensure the Wellness Program continues to run during the pandemic. Sophie has adapted the Wellness Program to online Zoom sessions. She also started an email newsletter to help reassure the MUHC’s many breast cancer patients during COVID crisis and offer advice for coping in such an unprecedented situation. Now, the MUHC’s breast cancer patients have access to a myriad of resources online, no matter their stage of cancer. Newly-diagnosed patients are invited to attend a five-session series that introduces them to their physicians, the Breast Clinic and the many resources available to them. They also have a session with a psychologist to help them process and cope with their diagnosis. From the beginning of their cancer journey, patients have access to the services of a nutritionist, exercise physiologist and sex therapist. A few years ago these brave little girls in grade 2 from Souvenir Elementary School all took part in cutting their hair in October to raise awareness and donate their hair. This year, it was important for survivor and pink ambassador for @pinkinthecitycanada Gwenaela Larvor to shave her head to represent women fighting breast cancer diagnosis and thank the incredible staff at the Royal Victoria @muhcfoundation who took care of her during her diagnosis. She is extremely grateful after 13 years of remission and always thinks of those who are living directly or indirectly such difficult moments in life. As Gwenaela always like to say - Giiiiirrrl...ll Ppoowweerrr ! She raised 1230.00$ for her 2020 Raise Craze campaign this year. We are extremely proud of the continuous kind actions and generosity that transpires in our community every single day. You can see how important community involvement and contributors are. Thanks to the different campaigns and initiatives that take place all over our city - these actions are showing us how much can be done when we all come together.
