Houses built between 1987 and 1992 may have polybutylene (AKA: PolyB) piping. It is grey blue in colour. This piping should never be within 18 inches of a water heater! Failure rates are extremely high when exposed to high temperatures!

Homeowners tip: bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans should not be any closer than 3 feet to a soffit vent. Hot moist air would be sucked back into the roof space where it would condensate creating the perfect environment for mould.
