To help stop erosion this year, we completed a bank protection project. By bringing in armour stone at the bottom of the bank, we hope to protect our park from further erosion. #pioneerparkbayfield
Mighty Lake Huron - In November we brought in armour stone and smaller rocks to protect the base of the park from further erosion #pioneerparkbayfield

Cooler weather certainly doesn't have to keep you inside! All-year-round activities, like hiking, are a perfect way to explore the park and the many trails that run around it and in the Bayfield area. Below, are our top five tips to follow when hiking in cooler times of the year,... 1 Be Mindful of Hunters: In the cooler seasons like fall, is many hunters' most anticipated time of the year, so it is important to take precautions and make yourself visible to the hunters that may be camped out in the area. Though it may not look too fashionable, we advise donning an orange safety vest if you know you will be exploring near an open hunting area. Luckily, they’re cheap and available at many sporting goods stores. 2 Stay hydrated: When doing any rigorous, physical activity, it is important to replenish your fluids. Ideally, you should be drinking one half to one quart of water every hour you’re hiking. However, be aware of your own body and how you are feeling at the time. You may need to drink more water depending on the temperature outside and the intensity of your hike. 3 Keep Warm and Dry: Weather can be unpredictable. A beautiful, sunny morning can transform into a cold and damp afternoon. For this reason, we suggest dressing in layers. So, if it’s warm, you can take a layer off to prevent sweating. If it’s cool, you can add a layer back on. 4 Let a Trusted Person Know Where You Are: It is important to know your limitations and always let a trusted family member or friend know where you’re going if you plan on going hiking alone. With the shorter days, longer nights, and lower temperatures, it is important to be cautious this time of year. 5 Keep an Eye on the Forecast: Referencing back to tip 3, weather can turn cold, rainy, or snowy in the blink of an eye. If you encounter foul weather or treacherous conditions, it might be best to leave the hike for another day. Happy trails! #pioneerparkbayfield #bayfieldontario #hiking
